Where did it go WRONG? |
|
Why exactly has the series become so bad? Enter the Dragonfly - I put it down to laziness. Hero's Tale - They ripped all seriousness out of the game and made most characters (including the ferocious Gnasty Gnorc) IDIOTS. This also happened to games like Crash and Rayman.
As for the new series - They went the complete opposite direction and made everything serious. They also thought giving the game a linear story would be a good idea, and NewDragon fans (people who didn't play the originals) attack the originals for their lack of story. The originals' stories were simple but effective. The new games stories are unoriginal and boring. The same could be said for the originals, but at least they don't focus on story, unlike the new cliché series. A Hero's Tail was a great game - had all the charm and gameplay of the first three while also changing a few things. Sure the characters were weird but that's only one thing.

Nah. In the first three games you travelled through portals. You had to walk everywhere in Hero's Tale. Also I didn't think the landscape looked as pretty.
I have to admit, it was still a good game (especially after Enter the Dragonfly!), but I felt it was lacking something. Don't know what though. ------------------- Spiritually ravaged. Morally confused. This fool who tries and tries again. But always doomed to lose.

It just introduced new breaths as a permanent factor, rather than boosts you get temporarily.
And so what if there were no portals. They were great, but aren't a must have. ------------------- You can take games out of my life, but you can't take my life out of games.

Overall, I liked AHT. I think the levels were well designed and the story well worked on. Well, except for the antagonist's name (a red dragon called Red? How original

I agree completely with the original poster.
I think part of the reason they changed the direction of the series was that the developers wanted to disassociate Spyro from some of the complete-failure post-Insomniac games. I've also noticed, though, that there don't seem to be very many platforming games like the original Spyro trilogy coming out anymore. Maybe the developers thought classic wouldn't sell? -------------------
