Scariest RPG ever? |
|
There are many RPG's out now across many systems but I say Koudelka is the scariest by far. Certain parts in Wizardry were scary but overall, it doesnt touch Koudelka. Its the Monster design, the setting and the overall feel of it that makes it the scariest RPG ever. Do you agree?

I agree with you 100 percent. And again, the reason it was scariest of all for me was because it's set in Abyryswith(Sp?) in Wales, which isn't far away from where I live, so it was always possible when I was younger Nementon could be a real place.
This RPG takes itself seriously in the right places to make it scary, and adds a bit of light humour just to polish off the atmosphere which is great. I think Patrick should have wrote a book on" 101 ways to kill a prostitute or robber." lol. ------------------- "There is no wrath as terrible as that of the righteous!"

I think this type of games which features dark-side of black magic, religion etc is called Gothic-style of games.
It is always dark, scary, the heroes and heroin always seems to be one step ahead of Death at all times and the bosses seems to be coming out of hell all the time. Such games are very rare, very hard to play and finish and the feeling ya get from them is very unique.

I didn't say I was "scared". I said that I think it is the "scariest" RPG out there. I havn't found many games that actually scare me.

HellFire! You're alive!
I thought Koudelka was very moody. I wasn't frightened by it, but reality is a hella lot scarier then most games anyway. Closest I would asses for scary though was one I looked at and said "no" to: I think it was called Siren. Very disturbing. Yeah, more disturbing than scary I suppose.

Yeah, I'm just busy with the Suikoden Role-Play site.
Another factor to consider would be the freak-factor. Doom 3 is an example of this. Some points in the game really freaked me out. Especially when the Monsters come out nowhere and make you jump out of your seat. ------------------- Twilight in a nutshell: The story of a young woman's choice to practice either bestiality or necrophilia.

I wasn't scared, as such, although I was a little weirded out and some bits did make me jump. Serves me right for playing it at night.

I wouldn't label it "scary", really, but there was definitely a sinister darkness to it overall, and a few of the scenes made me stop and say, "holy crap", like when both of the keepers die.
