I don't think this one is Sniper Elite 2, but it certainly appears to use a lot of the features of Sniper Elite. Take a look here http://www.city-interactive.com/en/opisy-pelne-en/sniper.html Out in the UK now and available from Play.com and Amazon for just £4.99!
Quick Review
Well it might be cheap and cheerful but its not actually truly awful. The Russian missions play OK. Windage, bullet drop, breathing and your position all play a part and it ain't easy on the Veteran level in places. There is some dumb AI activity occasionally eg. nobody comes to find you if they hear a shot, they just go to ground and wait for you to pick them off.
I don't like the fact that even on the Veteran level you are hand-held to some extent by a small marker popping up giving you the rough direction that enemy fire is coming from. Mind you some of the enemey are well hidden so even the marker won't help occasionally.
Another negative is the way you are warned about enemy snipers in the proximity by a voiceover. Also most of these snipers are not that deadly when you find them as they are usually taking a stroll on a rooftop or smoking a ciggy
On Veteran there are no health packs and ammo is limited to what you are given at the start, you won't be bumping into any extra ammo supplies along the way. There is no health bar, the screen just goes progressively redder as you get hit and then you die. If you manage to dodge further direct hits after being wounded you seem to recover health magically. A direct hit will kill you fast though.
The missions are fairly straightforward and nothing new - just go here, shoot that, blow this up, support the troops, get the snipers etc. The maps are fairly linear with invisible edges and a voiceover again if you try going the wrong way.
Graphics are OK but nothing special, probably on a par with the first MOHAA graphics. Unfortunately you are limited to 1024x768 resolution. Although it looks like you are supposed to be able to change resolution in the Options this is the only option! It won't look great therefore if your LCD monitor has a high native resolution as the pixels will get very stretched. It's not too bad on my 1280x1024 19".
I have just finished the Russian missions and appear to have hit a nasty bug on the first allied mission. If you fail to set off the explosives at the start of the first allied mission and get taken back to an auto restart of the mission the guy you have to follow gets stuck in the scenery and the mission cannot be properly started. Completely restarting the mission from scratch if this happens doesn't appear to fix the stuck soldier problem either. I had to go back to a save at the end of the last Russian mission and get back to the start of the first allied mission that way - which is nuts!! EDIT - You can bypass the bugged restart from a failed mission on this one by going back to the menu and choosing Load/Missions/Mission 7. You need to aim high to get the explosives to explode!!!
So the sniping is fairly well done, but the game execution and AI are generally pretty poor. Its OK for a quick 'shoot 'em up', but its nowhere near the quality and depth of Sniper Elite.
EDIT
Just finished it! Rather short, that took just 5 hours altogether on the Veteran level. There are supposed to be 10 missions if you look in the Levels folder, but the game finished after Mission 8 - The Forts. There is no Mission 9 in the Levels folder at all and Mission 10, while there, has no Loader file unlike the other missions, so I guess this is something that got left unfinished in the rush to make some cash on it.
Fun while it lasted and OK for a quick blast, but not a serious shooter for the experienced FPS player.
