Building lung strength? |
|
Whenever I try to go for a decent run, it's usually my breath that I lose first... either by a kind of cramp or lack of said breath.
What can I do to get my breath up to par with my legs? ------------------- ![]() Forever the King of Pop.

Don't smoke, don't inhale second hand smoke.
Check with your doctor for any kind of lung problems e.g. asthma etc.. Also do what you can then gradually step it up. ------------------- Ah kiss me

Increase lung capacity by doing breathing excercises. Take deep breaths while running instead of short ones and breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.

I suppose you could also do cardio at a higher elevation, that way you're lungs won't need as much oxygen once you get back to whatever elevation you live at.

quote wwemarvelfanOh, yeah, sure I think Master will walk out of him home, take a air plane, take a bus, and take a heli out to mount everest just to get higher elevation. While you are on the streets, you won't get higher elevations lol. ------------------- Ah kiss me

For the record ... you're doing cardio. Your cardiovascular system SHOULD be the thing that gives out first, not your muscles.

I don't smoke kthx.
quote GTA LegendI'm totally gonna try that. quote TumblesGuess I should be more specific; I want my 'cardiovascular system' to last longer, allowing me to cover more distance with the remaining muscular energy I have. I was thinking slow but long jogs to start? ------------------- ![]() Forever the King of Pop.

Well, not "slow" jogs. They still need to be a decent pace, but not too fast. Go for about half an hour at first at whatever pace you feel is pushing you pretty hard. Do that for 3/4 jogs and time yourself over all of them. If you have just started jogging [I assume you have], you will probably get much further on the 4th one than the first. Or you could run a certain distance that will take you around 35 minutes the first time and time yourself and see how much quicker you get.
Once you have knocked a few minutes or whatever off the first time, do a longer distance, but try and maintain the pace that you did over the original distance. In the first month or so you will notice a lot of difference, because your cardiovascular endurance will be a lot better.
