if you're on a heavy lifting routine, then you wanna be aiming for 1g-1.5g of protein per lb of body weight (which works out at like 2g-3g per kg I think)

Thanks, but i'm not lifiting anything yet, just my own bodyweight. I'm trying to change my diet as I'm training for the Army so basically i'm doing running but I've also got to do press ups ect.
Whilst i'm doing this I thought I should try and change my diet while i'm at it so I realised I need more protein, so does that change how much I should be aiming to get daily? I've always sruggled putting on weight but realised having a more balanced diet this should change naturally. ------------------- ![]() Credit: Memento Mori

Just eat a hell of a lot of clean, protein-rich food. Right now that's what I'm trying to do too.

Just have like a shake when you wake up, after you work out and before you go to bed along with healthy high protein food and you won't go far wrong.
Don't worry too much about getting into awesome shape. The entry requirements arn't that hard and your PT instructor will give you LOTS of help when you get in. ------------------- "I'm *bleep*ing upset, I've got milk on my *bleep*ing lips because I don't give a shit"

1g per lb of body weight is a rule of thumb, as mentioned by Taio. Whey protein will help you reach this target much easier. Ensure you're eating a good serving of protein in every one of your meals and you can easily reach the required amounts.

a scoop of protein and 200ml of milk is about 200cal. A scoop is about 112 if I recall correctly. So it's not that much of a problem even if you arn't lifting.
Then again what's the point of a high protein diet if you're not using that protein for something? ------------------- "I'm *bleep*ing upset, I've got milk on my *bleep*ing lips because I don't give a shit"

Yeah I see your point Tank, I'm just trying to eat more balanced because I have been lacking protein in my diet for a long time.
