has anyone else had the problem when fighting "Gonarch" near the end of half life? Gonarch is pretty much a 4 legged spider and has always made my arachniphobia flare up! Its so annoying because i really want to beat the game and i know how far away from beating it? any ideas how i can overcome this?

u have 2 more levels and 1 choice till u do it. I have aracnophobia, quite bad, but it is a game and it aint even a arachnid, it has 4 legs not 8!

I know, I hate Gonarch as well, Just face it and you'll get used to it

Or you could go into cheat mode then noclip and you'll be safely be away from him.

wanna kill Gonarch? simple. aim for the belly- its so huge, you cannot miss it... 1st, Gonarch will go to another area- continue this strategy. in the 3rd arena, aim the belly from the bottom, while defending yourself from baby headcrabs. Try going behind the crochets which hit you when you touch them. Baby headcrabs will head for you, but will end up in front of the hitting stuff...

they'll get killed, and all you have to do is killin' big mama! explosive weapons are best

I wasn't really affected and i have Arachniphobia. Well actually... i just hate spiders. Im fine with scorpions and stuff. Ok fine i hate centipides. OK WHATEVA I HAVE ARACHNIPHOBIA!

anyway, i didnt take it that badly because after about 20 levels of annoying hardness, which is confusing to run around with. I finally just got over pissed and used god mode and occasionally noclip. Didnt use weapons cheat though. I still killed it with ease. Well it did take me quite a while to realize i was actually hurting it. Anyway...

Just keep playing it with cheats and you should be quite happy with it.

OMG those dam headcrabs were so annoying! I couldnt bother with them but then they pile up on you and thats when they piss you off. And i always forgot to use the Crowbar so i wasted like 50 shotgun shells on them.

er, no, it's fear of arachnids -- spiders, scorpions, and similar arthropods. you might be able to include horseshoe crabs in that too, even if they're not strictly arachnids, they ARE cheliceratids along with spiders.

but, uh, octopus have 8 legs, and i don't think arachnophobia covers that.

I don't see anything silly about the arachniphobia acting up in the game, shows what a good job the creators did .
Personally the babyheadcrabs were much more annoying for me than the gonarch itself, i never used the crowbar on them and had to get real good with the shotgun to take them out.

But lets expand this discussion a little, i don't have any arachniphobia but i can't swim and really hated having to fight those ichtyasaurs .
Anyone else have any any phobias which got to them in the game, claustrophobic people having problems with the vents? Afraid of heights people having problems in Xen or something?

I don't have any phobias, but the game still has the ability to give me a good startle every once in a while. Too bad the Maw Men aren't as prevalent in this game as they were in HL2.
