[Event] Q2 Group Map Making Project Thingie 1.0 |
|
Last year I started a project where the idea is to create a room no bigger than 512^3 and send me the .map and/or .qkm (QuArK), which would be combined into one big SP map of whateverness. I had not set a time limit because people are often busy with other projects and life but I think it's about time to wrap it up.
Here are the requirements: - Build space no bigger than x512 * y512 * z512. Doors and walls may extend past this but the main room content must be contained within. - No external files. All sounds, textures, entities etc. must be original Quake 2. This ensures that the only thing required to play is the latest official update. - Any trigger tags should contain your nickname so as to distinguish your triggers from everyone elses (mikemc_door1). If you need a button or item to be in another room, place it in a separate area outside your main room and I'll set it up at the end. - There is no limit to the number of rooms you may submit but unless they are hallways used for connecting other rooms, try to refrain from making them similar to get some variety. The website contains screenshots of all submitted maps thus far and after about 16 or so I will assemble them, although the more, the merrier http://members.shaw.ca/mccall1/quake/project/gmmt_aug06/index.html - Mike | |

What kind of program do you use to edit and create Quake 2 maps? I have some experience using Unreal Editor 2.0. Is Quake 2's Program similar? More user friendly?

In my opinion it's way easier becase Quake 2 can't do all the things you can do in Unreal, although I've barely touched UnrealEd. Quake Army Knife is good for Quake-style engines and it's pretty easy to pick up.

Alright, I downloaded and installed Quake Army Knife, and I'll get to learning how to use it and creating a map or two, although I'm not sure how good they'll turn out.
