re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II] |

I have a problem with my memory card (should I be in a different thread?)
Now that I have a ps3, I decided this would be the best time to 100% all my games. I got on to Dynasty Warriors 5, and everything was going fine but then it said "unable to save". I trid a few times, but no success. When I checked the memory card on the browser, it displayed the first 2 lines of data as normal, although one bit was corrupted (icon = blue box). When it got to the 3rd row, 3rd data it half-brought up the icon, then 'kicked me out' of the card. When I go back in it shows everything up to that point quickly, then kicks me out again. Is there any way for me to check my card without using the browser, that way I could delete "3rd row, 3rd data" and the corrupted data also. tbh i don't even know if that would help though... any thoughts on this? ------------------- The right thing said at the right time is priceless

Good post. Okay, I realise this is somewhat dead, but hopefully I'll get some replies. If not within a few days, I'll resort to Loungin'. I started up my PS2 this morning with Fifa 09 inside (brand new, no scratches), and the PS2 made a whirring noise as starting up, then clicked a bit which then stopped as the game started. Thought it was just being weird and nothing more. Tried to turn it on now, and the whirring happens again and the clicking doesn't stop, and the game (nor any other) will load now. Any help? ♥ ------------------- ![]()

What type of PS2 do you have? The bulky or compact one?
The 'clicking' sound happens to my PS2 if the disc is wrongly placed. (If your PS2 is the compact one) Make sure that the disc is fully 'clicked' into the holder. -------------------

It is the old one, so bulky. And no it is not just a case of the disc not being inserted properly, my PS2 is screwed up. It won't read PS2 games or DVDs at all, but it will read a PS1 game but not play. ♥ ------------------- ![]()

If he tried to fix it but couldn't, then obviously it must have been a serious unfixable problem? in which case you are probably better off buying another second hand PS2, they don't cost that much at all, you can get them for around £40 ($80) in games shops and you could probably find one cheaper online. ♥ ------------------- ![]()

Some of my discs are getting a little bit scratchy, I know it's my own fault by the way
Are there any simple techniques that I can use apart from blowing on the disc and inside the PS2 to improve the disc's performance? Thanks -------------------

quote Willow Vampire That's got to be the track pin. The old bulkies had a weak gripping part that would bend out of shape after excessive use, causing the track pin to slip past the grip. In other words, the laser is trying to move along the track, but isn't catching anymore. There was a replacement grip piece that was made of sturdier metal, can't locate one online though. ------------------- ![]()

If it is what Raijin thinks it is, that would be the laser arm. Is there a kind of grinding noise aswell? If so it is a remarkably simple fix, I actually fixed my own PS2 like this for the second time just two days ago with nothing but a screwdriver and a cigarette lighter, and it now works fine again. If that is what you think it is I can point you in the direction of some guides that will show you how to do it yourself.

My PS2 is reading my game (PES 2009), however after the initial load up screen (with the blue cubes), it goes back to reading my disc in the Browser, and then the disc appears. I go to it and press X and the same process happens, it reads it, but then just goes back to the Browser.
Anyone know what the problem might be, and how I could fix it? Cheers -------------------

It's not reading the disc.
Check the disc for scratches. If it's not a disc issue, then you may have dust/dirt clogging your machine.I had that issue.I had a computer tech take mine apart and clean out the dust and it resumed working..although now it seems to have that same problem and I went out and bought another one. You might get an can of air or reverse a vaccum and blow air through it.Make sure it is unplugged and off and try that and it might work. Good luck.
