re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

Okay this is weird. I have the original version of Midnight Club and haven't played it in years, but it was a great game for a PS2 launch title. Anyway, I booted it up and I keep getting a "Disc Read Error" message. Now my PS2 has had NO PROBLEMS playing any other games, even the newer ones like San Andreas. The only thing I can think of is that this is a newer PS2 relatively speaking (although it is the old design, not the flat one). The disc itself has the Blue colored surface, and I remember once reading that the colored surface PS2 discs had some problems but I amm not sure when and where. Anyone have any ideas what's going on? I have to conclude that it is the disc not the PS2 because my PS2 is fine other than on this game.

Oh and I checked the surface of the disc and it literally looks like it is brand new, no surface scratches or blemishes at all. WEIRD!

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

Chances are the problem is caused by the fact is a blue-colored disc. Many games with blue-colored discs are notorious for not working with certain PS2 models.

as for this, its nuttin to wrr about, its jes a small scratch that is givin the laser a hard time, Or you could have a fingerprint on it.

and as for this, the blue color makes the laser refract as it tries to read the disc making it difficult, i had to buy a new system recently and all of my blue discs were playin fine until about a week ago, all thats wrong is that sum dust is on the laser and it doesnt have full power, so the laser refracts(bends) more.

n its not rlly the colour but the added finish they put on to make sure the colour doesnt mess up the system, by like falling out of the sides, the blue was a bad idea in my mind.

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

Hey, I'm having problems with one of my games(GTA:SA). My friend gave it to me, cuz it was scratched by his old PS2. I've tried everything to fix the scratches-toothpaste, metal polish, vaseline, none worked. They got some scratches off of it, but it still doesn't work. My PS2 works, btw. It gets right past the loading, then when it should start the game, it does an Error. Help-I want to fix it myself without having to pay the money for scratch repair...*cries*

EDIT: Don't double post, Jasperz.

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

Our first ps2 (had it for a couple of years), stopped reading discs properly for no reason.. It was temperamental, it would read PS1 games, and the blue discs, but was selective with other games. We replaced it, and after a while the next one did the same thing. I heard it was something to do with the laser going out of alignment.. But I don't really know.. I'm not good with fixing things, so I haven't attempted to take any of them apart.

Firstly try running systems diagnosis, and setting your disk speed to fast - you can do this through systems settings.
Thanks! Now I can play FFVII again! My PS2 is making a lot of noise though. Is that bad?

My PS2 makes that noise when I put in some of my PSX games. It don't know why. They work perfectly if I play my PSX games on my PSX console though.

No shit...I already knew it was a PS2 game...

I'm just saying my PS2 makes that noise except it's with some of my PSX games. You don't gotta be mad.
