re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

G4TV has a risky solution to reparing the PS2's DRE's. I tried it but fooked up, and I bought a 2nd PS2 two years ago, because my first one wasn't reading any discs whatsoever. Now it's not reading the latest games I got. The store manager said that it's got something to do with the disc that the game is on, and that the newer PS2s (slimmer ones) are the better bets.

Anyways, the best thing I can do to play the newer PS2 games is to go to the browser and put in the new game, then when it says Disc Read Error, I take it out, put in a game that does work, and after it's done reading that, I switch it back to the newer game. The store manager also said to call up Sony, as they have some solutions to this problem, but I thought I'd ask for help here first.

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

I got a thing called Disk Doctor, I heard it's pretty good. It fixes games that are scratched, It works on PS2 games as it fixed my friends GTA:SA & VC.

But does this make it so you cannot Trade them in or Return them?

Part replacement. Either fuse, lens, or whole drive
A real possibility. A repair service is also a good idea or you might wanna take your PS2 to Gamestop or Eb games aND replace it.

Or check all your games they might even have a lot of scratches

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

My ps2 only reads certain discs. I have a MGS3 disk that is in perfect condition no scratches whatsoever but it takes like 15 tried before my ps2 will read the damn disc. On the other my FFX disc had no problem even thought it has a few scratches on it. Anyone know what the problem might be?

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

It's because your PS2 is getting old, the same thing happened to me. There's a possibility that you can help the problem by getting the lens cleaned, but I went and bought a used PS2 since my system was over 5 years old as it was, and stopped reading certain games a long time ago. My newer PS2 makes a lot of clicking noises, especially when loading up cutscenes in sports games, but it reads all of my games just fine, even my old blue-backed disks.

Buying a used ps2 isnt a bad idea, I hope I can get the slim one used for a cheap price.

I would have rather got the Slim one, but it ws too expensive for me compared to the bigger original. I did this around June, so the slim ones may still be too expensive for you.

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

I just put in my Driver: Parallel Lines disc, and the Playstation 2 logo appeared, but then it went back to the browser menu for a second, and then displayed "Please insert a PS or PS2 format disc". I've tried a few other discs, and all of them worked. Can anyone help me here?

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

I'm not sure if this counts as a proper problem but I haven't a clue how to get my PS2 started...

Basically my mates moved my PS2 downstairs the other day and then one of my other mates set it up upstairs for me and now it doesn't work. I wasn't watching him do it so I don't know if he did owt wrong and it all seems to be connected fine, but when I turn it on nothing comes up on the TV and I can hear this low humming sound that gets louder/quieter when I turn the volume up/down...anyone know what might be wrong? cheers in advance.

*edit* sorted it, my mate had put the yellow wire in the white hole and vice versa...

re: Disc Read Error/Laser Problems [II]

My PS2 isn't working, my brother had FIFA 06 in there, then took it out without resetting and the game froze like that for a few days while I was away. I got back and found it frozen so put in another game, it didn't work. Tried 3 different games and every time the Disc Read Error message comes up, how can I help this?

Well if you rented it out and it doesn't work, bring it back and show them the scratches. They're supposed to do that before renting the game out to you, but Blockbuster Video has done it to me before.
