You poured water on the disc? It's much safer for the disc if you slightly dampen a paper towel and clean it that way, then quickly use a dry paper towel on it. Having water on the disc itself will stain it and possibly screw it up.

Sorry, I never go into details, yea I did that, and now the opening clip for the game does pause, but I press start and I get to play. Besides blockbuster, they are so tired to check games. they just shack the case and see if they hear a noise.

Eh, the Blockbuster I know at least pop the thing open to make sure it's the right game,
In any case, my PS2 has been on life support since last Christmas. Everytime it started acting up, I went to the manual operation on the system as I have for almost a year. I bought a new game on Tuesday fresh out the plastic that wouldn't load. I spent hours in the night playing with the guts of my PS2 before coming across the simple solution of diagnostic mode, which worked at the time. Though, turning off my PS2 that night was just another way of it saying "You've had your little taste of freedom... I'm done." I came back the next day, Diagnostic mode my salvation in my mind, only for it not to work this time around. There's seemingly no configuration to get this game working. The system plays almost exactly one half of my collection while denying the other half. The lens cleaning, the lens adjusting, the vertical positioning, vacuuming, almost tried the voltage adjusting but caught myself when the FAQ practically told me not to. Hell, I even tried the scotch tape method on a DVD-Rom disc, knowing that it wasn't going to work as it's been deemed a 'CD-Rom disc only' method Is there anything more than could possibly be done, any solutions that I might have overlooked that may help, or is it just basically the gradual "going blind" phase for my Duece where eventually it won't be able to read a damn thing? If I'm forced to buy a new one there's several things that I'm looking at. I've read that refurbished PS2s aren't so dependable and you'd be better off just buying a brand new one. Alongside of that, I've heard some models (the 30001 keeps coming to mind) has more problems than others. At the same time, though I know the Slimline seems to have lesser problems and better insulation than the Fatties, I wanna avoid getting a Slimline due to my hardrive, which is part of the reason why some of my collection not loading up doesn't really matter to me because I have backup copies of them on the drive. That really proved to me that the purchase was worth it. At the same time, much of my collection isn't on there and the one thing I wanna play doesn't seem like it's gonna happen anytime soon unless a miracle happens real friggin soon. ------------------- Enter the Webbanation...

Damnit, stupid browser just went back a page when I hit "backspace" to fix an error. Lost a very long post
Earlier this year I tried to rent out Lego Star Wars for the GC from Blockbuster. I got home, opened the case up... hey the artwork on this disc sure looks a lot like... wait, this is SSBM! As for the PS2, my original PS2 died earlier this year right on my freaking birthday. That really sucked, I had bought Mercenaries for myself for my birthday and didn't have the chance to play it for months. Bought a used PS2 from EB Games a couple months after that and although it reads discs just fine (even blue and black backed ones as well as DVD's, which my original stopped doing after only like a year), it has the tendency to make loud clicking noises when loading cutscenes for many of my sports games, which is annoying as it also slows the game down trying to load the cutscene up. I'm just happy it reads discs period though. I've learned to deal with the noise. ------------------- ![]() ![]()

Does the dampen paper towel thing work? I have Resident Evil 4 running right now, and its frozen. It always freezes at this spot. On the disk, it looks like my PS2 scratched up about 2 cm from the edge of the disk.
Other than that, its perfectly fine. Every other aspect of the game runs fine... just this part where it has to load a cutscene it freezes. Any ways i can really clean the disk good or to get it running properly so i can finish pro mode and get the damn PRL? =P

Well it obviously doesn't fix scratches, but I've rented many games where the people who had it before me had no clue how to properly take care of the disc, and often I see smudges on the disc such as finger prints which wind up disabling the disc from being read properly. If I can't get those fingerprints and other smudges out with a dry paper towel, then dampening the paper towel and rubbing the disc, and QUICKLY using a dry paper towel to dry the disc off before the water stains into the disc, happens to nearly always work for me. It obviously won't help with scratches

you can buy this little contraption, you put the disk onto it, spray the stuff and then leave about 5 mins, then wipe it away with the special scrubber thingy lol, it cleans up the scratchs its very effective

Just wondering. When I start my ps2 with a dvd in it, it directly goes to the browser/version page instead of reading the disc. I do'nt think my disc is spinning. Is there any way to fix this?

Hey, just wondered one thing.
My PS2 takes a long time to read discs. It wont play GT4 anymore it used to. Plus it wont play DVDs anymore. It makes this strong churning noise sometimes when it's playing games. I just wondered if this is damaging the discs? It's 5 years old so thats proberly why. Any help/advice please. Thanks

I don't even recall PS2 games having purple backs. I know of silver and blue ones and when my first PS2 died, the blue backed games and black backed ones (PS1 games were black backed) were the ones that stopped working first, the silver ones lasting the longest. It does mean your PS2 is aging and your laser is not reading discs like it used to. You could try taking your PS2 into a place that would try to clean your laser lens, but more than likely your PS2 has aged too much and you may need a new one. I had to get a new one

Ok, so I got Devil May Cry 3 for Christmas, and when I load up my PS2 and go to the cd select screen, another screen comes up asking me to insert a PS2 or PS1 format disc, why is it doing this?

It could be that your PS2 is not reading the disc properly or that the disc is scratched. But since you just got it that shouldn't be a problem. Make sure the disc is clean and try reinserting the disc. If that doesn't work without doing anything else open the tray and close it again. Then it should load up. If it doesn't you might need to clean out your PS2. But first does it play other games and DVDs?
