The idea behind this is to allow quicker responses for people already familiar with the markup system and such.
When viewing a thread, would it be possible to have a text box at the bottom of each page that would allow you type in a response without having to go through the 'post reply' link? You wouldn't need to list smilies, or markup tags. I think it would be easier for the regulars to respond, and it allows you to quickly and repeatedly check back on what has been written in the thread.

It's not a replacement for the 'post reply' screen, merely a feature that allows for easier replying.

That is a good idea. Most members already know all of the mark-ups/smilies. This would help out members who run on dial-up as going back and forth to reply *link* would take a bit more time. And sometimes i would rather not quote someone, but i may forget what was said easily and find myself going back.

Just bringing this back up as from the other thread. Just want to say that I would love to bring this in action, because from 56kers it might take them a long time to switch from web page to another and could save them a lot of time.

I have seen it in action and i know a place, which uses it and it is quick and very useful and i already know smilies if i want to use them.

Quick reply = Quick spamming.

Furthermore, the suggestion is more like a preview screen with a reply on the bottom without mark-up tags visible. How would that help speed up the loading time? You will loading the entire message with a reply box.

What you are suggesting is more like an "advance" layout for regulars that are already familiar with the mark-up. That's like going back to the old neoforum version 0.1.5 Where there was no mark-up tags and you had to type them out manually.

The mark-ups is there for convenience.

Enable it for certain members then. Like for true seekers. You can ban the feature for certain members.

I like it, it would make it a lot easier. I also like the restriction idea that was mentioned, that way it would cut down on spam.

well, I think it would bring us one step closer to a chatroom. I think that the reply box keeps us from constantly yapping, and the markup is still fairly nifty. I know the markup, sure, but I still use the buttons, because they're there.

As for quicker spam, spam is spam. Spammers are spammers, do you think they care for the time it takes to spam

It may provide a quicker means for spam, but I think the good comes on top the bad.

Got to say this but this idea of a quick reply has one big down side to it and that is the fact that you get like 1330 views to a 255 post thread what is about 30 pages I guess. You would have to have that 1330 - 255 + (255*2) times minium since when you reply that does not count as view but then you are taken back to the thread so 2 times you actually see thread for 1 count. That is 1615 times. Now you will have to have a Title field a submit button and probably a reset button. For members a Signature button and guests a name field. So actually this idea may actually increase tarrific and load on the neo servers since you will basically need to have the entire page then you have to split it up for guests and members.

And you have to do this about 1615 times for a 30 page thread. Whereas the basic reply does not need to do a split until the reply and therefore does not have to mess about with such a big page like a page with 14 replies on it. Also this is going to lead to more one line posts since people will be racing others to reply to threads in a forum.

Sorry but I have to say them since not every idea that works on one forum is going to work on another.

Both would be useful.

resistence I don't quite follow what you mean? have a quick reply with nothing more than a reply text box, a user name text box and a submit button. nothing more. Signitures by the default setting of the user, and everything else as well.

i like this idear, it could be for people with 100+ posts like the report tool.
