re: [Suggestion] Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down Ratings |
quote Sam_PWell yes, but no one ever said you don't take this with a grain of salt. I wouldn't really call that abuse if those people really liked or disliked that person, though the random one may be (but is unlikely to be frequent). I make many controversial posts in IE, and I know that if some people don't like them it's not a problem, but if twenty people gave it a thumbs down then it is probably the way I said it and not just because they disagree with my opinion. ------------------- Awaiting Moderation

I would rather not... It is rather pointless. If the post is somehow offensive or in any way inappropriate it will get reported. If a difference of opinions occurs between the person who made a post and the reader it would be more beneficial for the discussion if the reader posted his opinion rather than dissing the post. Also, differing opinions should not even be something that should be judged. The only thing I see this could have any use is in the grammar-area, but even there it is no good. While I do found some posts with bad grammar to be irritating this is probably because their native tongues are not English, or they are very young. Maybe both. Besides, this would be elitist and therefore making the forum less enjoyable. ------------------- ![]() Don't eat my rose, silly sheep.

re: [Suggestion] Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down Ratings |
quoteNot really, many people have the same opinions as me, but make posts and jokes so horrendously dumb that I feel obligated to tell them some how. And it is possible to be offensive or mean, but not in a way that breaks rules, I have seen it a lot. Or sometimes people have the same opinions as me, but ramble or create a wall of text the Chinese would be proud of. ------------------- Awaiting Moderation

I think it seems like an OK idea, although people may abuse the system and just press them for the sake of it, remember we do have some noob kids.

I'd support this, but only for a thumbs up button. GameGrep proved how a thumbs down button can be well and truely abused.

I'd like to see something still where you can only give someone a kudos and for it not to be shown in public. A way to say thanks but not have it washed all over the site inducing people to push the button just for the hell of it. =)

I have changed my mind over the last two years. I think that a thumbs up/thumbs down system would encourage people to click on them rather than reply. A well thought out reply is worth a hundred thumbs up or thumbs down.

I was thinking of suggesting this kind of thing for actual blogs aswell as the posts. Kinda tells you who likes it rather than having people favourite it.

I think that in this forum, particularly, a thumbs up feature could work quite well for a quick overview of what various members want.
