[Suggestion] Implementation of Twitter Widget |
|
It is no surprise that Twitter has taken off by storm and is now the even quicker and faster way to find out what people and friends are doing than Facebook, Bebo, Myspace and so on.
Yet what Twitter also provides that the others don't is a Twitter widget that can be added to sites and blogs, unfortunately with the restrictions imposed it isn't possible to put it anywhere except for Neohome (not tried yet) However, I believe if the 255 character limit is extended on NeoBlog's "about the blog" section or another section is placed at the bottom of the user info section just for the Twitter update whether it be the HTML or Flash version then blogs would get more traffic and even more use out of them. Don't forget there aren't just normal everyday people using Twitter, you have celebrities and even game developers using Twitter Example of what I mean via Firebug addon in Firefox: http://images.d00glez.com/twitterexample.png - Warning: size is 1360 x 768 ------------------- ![]() ![]()

I agree with this. It could make the blog seems a little more social I think.

While i think it would be a good idea, i'm thinking that it's not necessarily the most applicable or even the best for the site. The implementation of such a feature would be huge, and it would really amount to nothing more than more networking, which most people do through other sites anyway.
While good intentions are had by this, i don't see it's functional use being all that important to the site, and it's implementation would probably be more effort than it's worth. -------------------

I don't agree with this. Neo already has its own blog site and advertising a rivals site make no sense. If someone here wants to go on Twitter, they can do it themselves.

Pushing twitter might hurt, but I think the implementation of a "what are you doing right now?" tool would be pretty awesome as far as a quick easy way for seekers to connect. Pretty much every social networking site has the format now, so it shouldn't be that hard to code or add to Neo's current layout.

Yeah, I don't think we should use the Twitter widget, but I do think some similar sort of thing would be neat.

re: [Suggestion] Implementation of Twitter Widget |
quote Guest 2008Then I must see it completely different to you as personally I wouldn't consider "Twitter" a rival towards Neoseeker. If Neoseeker was "just" a social networking site like Facebook or Myspace then yes I would agree with you but personally I see Neoseeker as an universal gateway to not just making friends, meeting old friends, finding out what friends do and think but also the same for the games industry as well. Neoseeker has its own twitter page, several neostaff such as Rabidchinagirl and Tekmosis have their own twitter page, myself and many games reviewers have their own twitter page and the many thousands of "unknown" and "known" members of Neoseeker have their own twitter pages. The same could be said for blogs, the same could be said for forums and while the two just named aren't allowed to be advertised within the forums, they certainly aren't banned from being spoken of, especially considering you can "facebook it" as one of the options in the blog/game grep sections. Fanboyism and brand loyalty are slowly dwindling even though there are some fanboys still in uproar and while yes, Neoseeker maybe better off with their own version, it does make me sad to see people "stuck" within this mindset. However if anything, I suppose this has given an eye opener to an alternative but with that said, it would then make Neoseeker rivals of Twitter, it would then push the questions of "What does Neoseeker's alternative have that Twitter doesn't?", "If I have Twitter already, why would I need Neoseeker's?" and you get the point. Not shooting the idea down or defending Twitter but just something for thought ------------------- ![]() ![]()

My mistake, I thought Twitter was a blog site like Neoblogs.
quote ShadowJI do get the point that that is another point. Twitter seems to be very popular if if we advertise the other site, we are helping Twitters popularity, not ours. If we do go ahead with the idea, dozens of other members will start petitioning for several ideas to somehow link Neoseeker to other social sites, like the aforementioned Myspace, Facebook, Bebo etc not doing any good for Neo. As you said, many Neo members have Twitter, so if you want to know 'how they are feeling' or 'what's their favourite video', you can just search them up on Twitter. I'm certain that members here are allowed to have links to other non-Neo sites and it's their decision to. ------------------- ![]()

well dont foget that people can advertise a plethora of things from their own signatures anyway, and it is not against neoseekers rules unless the link is to something detrimental or inappropriate for children and so on.
as for this suggestion, well the way i see it at the moment, the advantages and disadvanages are at a certain point where i see it as neither bad or good, but thats up to the neostaff to decide. so this is one of those suggestions id think are 'why not' types. -------------------

re: [Suggestion] Implementation of Twitter Widget |
quote Guest 2008Aye that's the only down side I can see to this, that other members will think "Well if Twitter is being advertised then why not other sites?" but then I got thinking...Neseeker has its own Videos section yet at the same time mark-up code to allow Youtube, Gametrailers and Gamespot videos to be posted across the whole site. Fair do's the Youtube one makes sense since Neoseeker's section is specifically for gaming videos but it's the same principle. Though even if it's just a code to implement the Twitter widget or a Neoseeker version...I think this suggestion would make the blogs more personal and get even more use out of them or bring in new bloggers. ------------------- ![]() ![]()

quote ByzantineI agree with Byzantine here, he has covered all of the points I would have mentioned. It's just not worth the effort, and giving another blog site attention isn't a particularly good thing for Neoseeker. quote cartelThis is a good idea from cartel, I think it'd be good for members to connect with other members, even if they don't know eachother. This would definitely be a step forward for Neoseeker as lately they've been taking popular features of other websites and making then a possibility on Neoseeker and this would be no different. ------------------- welcome to the age of stupidity,
