How do i build fences and what persay do they do? it also says lumber can be used for fire making. If thats true can someone please tell me how to do it.

fences allow for you to place you animals (cows, sheep, chicken, and the young horse) outside, and in one specific area. fences also serve to keep your live stock (cows, sheep, and chickens) safe from wild dogs. if the live stock comes into contact with the wild dogs, the live stock will loose hearts. all of these functions can be duplicated by the small stones that you can find on your farm at the beginning of the game, and after hurricanes. however, it's my opinion that the wood fences look better than the stone one.

as for the fire, i think it's after the second house extension that you get the fire place. have a piece of lumbar in your hand, and walk up to the fire place, and hit A. walla, fire...

but how do i build fences?

Cut down trees and use the lumber to build a fence. The lumber goes to your wood bin, which is in between the barn and the stable. Hit A when facing the wood bin and pick up a plank. Put the plank somewhere on your field and keep on doing it until you have a square shaped fence. To make a fire, get a plank from your wood bin and put it in your fireplace. (You need the last house extention because it comes with a fireplace)
