a little advice needed

I think I've racked up around 10 hours of actual in game time now, but my kudos is not rising so much lately.

I've only got 40.000 and the last 10.000 was really a hastle getting. I've been racing for gold medals, which seems to be the only way of getting kudos.

Anybody got any strategy, which gives the most back in forms of kudos?

/Lars

re: a little advice needed

Well, in my stats I have 12 hours and 25 minutes.
I have 15 cars available and earned 53 medals.

In quick race I have all gold, except the "very hard", where I only have two gold medals.

In arcade race I have gold and silver in the easy and medium

And I have a lot of mixed medals up to level 6 of kudos challenge.

Perhaps I have been chasing gold medals for way too long time

Just keep at it, work on your powerslide in order to rack up kudos. It's likely that many of the races that you got gold and silver in could earn you another couple thousand points in kudos once the power slide is really top notch. Also try going back with the faster cars and rerace even the gold medal finishes for more points.

Don't worry about 10-12 hours of race time (most people quit races and restart and it doesn't count toward miles and drive time. I have all levels open and only 10 races that are only bronze finishes (all bonus), 275,000 kudos, and only about 3 1/2 hours official drive time, but I've quit hundreds of races! Screw anyone who tells you you suck because you're sticking with the races til the end. Best of Luck!

I really suck then! I have played for months with 25 hours of real gameplay and only have 47.000 kudos. I am stuck and I quit playing because it is beyond my efforts. Yes I am a wimp, although I played Stuntman on the PS2 to a good end.
I have a steering wheel Trustmaster force feedback. Or is the gamepad better? Any advice!

I just use a small game pad. Oh, did I say 3 1/2 hours?! I meant DAYS! Now well over 100 hours (not counting all the times I quit!) Probably weeks of racing over many many months.

Okay, so Now I've 335,000 Kudos, and gold and silver in each kudos race to include bonus and gold in all arcade and quick races.

I'm not an expert; I don't even do my own shifting - I only race with automatic transmission... but I might have a few tips for you.

practice cornering with the hand break where you need a sharp turn, the regular break when you need to turn more gently, and try not to use either break if laying off the gas just a little while turning will get you through the turn cleanly.

Even though your car tends to be faster than similar cars on the straights, you really make your money in the corners.

There is only rarely a time when hitting a wall is faster than a clean turn, even if you have to slow down greatly to make the turn, get good at racing cleanly.

never fight for a position with cars on your butt. Only pass when you are in the press at the very beginning of the race, or when you can pass "cleanly". I don't mean that you should not rub, bump, smash your opponents, but make sure that you don't sacrifice many seconds giving and taking a 1st or 2nd position, and allow car 3,4,5 and 6 to catch you. Better to trail and pass cleanly latter than to fight and lose ground relative to the rest of the field.

About the beginning of the race... use trial and error to see where you can force a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place position from the very first lap of the race. Try and try again until you figure out exactly how the other cars rub and jockey for position, until you figure out how to sail past most of them in your first couple of turns. It may well require hitting or avoiding a key car to the left or right.

Steering rear wheel drive cars... Steer with the break. A tap on either the break or hand break just before and during part of the turn will lessen the chance of fish-tailing out of control. Once you get more control you can begin to steer out of turn with the accelerator floored, but it's best to learn how to fully control the RWD cars before you trade control for kudos by way of power sliding.

Once your power slide is fantastic and you can put you car anywhere you want it, go back and re-race all the arcade races and power-slide everywhere. on the straights, between the cones, through the gates. 100+ kudos is often worth 180-200+ just by linking a couple gate and corners together. Get enough tricks linked, and the string can be worth much more than double what the slides themselves were worth individually.

When you find yourself racing in first place, but only needing a 2nd place finish... let the demonic a$$ kicking #2 car pass you on the straight, and follow it to a strong 2nd place finish with some easy kudos in the bargain. If it's just you and him with the rest of the field far behind, don't blow the race battling for first if you've set the race up for a 2nd place finish.

These are the cars I got the most use out of early on:

Mini cooper - steady as a rock for the majority of quick, arcade, and early kudos races (go back and kick ass with faster cars later, but while you're cutting your teeth this is a great car!)

Skyline GTR good handling and acceleration

Feroce - can't say enough about this car for learning how to handle high-end RWD - it handles the best of the RWDs and isn't so greatly overpowered that you can't learn to control it

Later I used porches and ferraris, of course, but the mini, skyline, and feroce were the mainstay of my racing stable until I had 150,000 kudos

on the one on one races - win them first to tackle each new level. You don't have to be faster, just be in front. Ues your mirrors, know where the opponent is. Cut off the racing line, take the inside corners, and don't race at full speed (save some acceleration for beating the opponent to the next corner so you can cut him off in need be)

on the overtake challenges... pass cleanly, even if you have to wait a moment to do so, don't get bogged down with the slow cars by fighting with them. Try never to touch them.

in the average speed races where your your time is figured off of gate speed, make sure you get a great run at the gate, even if you have to take a slow corner to set up for the gate. It's really averaging the gate speeds, not the overall speed, so in places you may actually slow almost to a stop and still get a better average time than if take a preceding corner at speed but hobble through the speed gate.

Learn to drive from the cars in front of you. Watch how the best cars corner, and look for the smoke when then break. Soon you'll find you can delay your breaking just slightly, take turns more sharply, and still make the turn - giving you a longer and faster straight, and a faster turn too. The hand break will facilitate making somewhat square turns which are quick and cut the front car's lead time till you can pass cleanly.

When it seems you are getting spun a lot, it is almost always because you were full throttle when you (or they) made contact. A quick release of the accelerator will often cause the attacking car to slow, back off, or even spin themselves out, instead of you. Once you have j-turn and 360 down pat, even in a bad spin you can often recover faster than the overly aggressive car that spun with you.

If at first you don't succeed, quit and try again. That said, try racing problem races all the way to the miserable finish at least once or twice, until you can complete a lap a) without touching a wall, and b) while maintaining at least the average speed of the slowest car. If you can't race a single lap without calamity, you'll never win, place or show, but once you can race even one lap cleanly, you can learn to repeat that performance again and again until you're a winner.

Like I said, I'm no expert... I still have 26 of 177 races in which I need gold medals, and I only an hour ago got my 10,000 kudos bonus (probably for getting all gold and silver?).

I hope these ramblings help someone. Hang in there. I'm 37, and never tried a racing game before last year. If I can beat this thing then all you kids can too.

re: a little advice needed

This was a great advice. Thanks for your time.
I started playing again this week and took the 50.000 kudos. I got the Lotus now.
Indeed the Mini is great I even got a couple of gold medals on 'very hard'.
I broke off my handbrake on the steering wheel but I think the controller is better.
Like you, I will have to buy a smaller controller as with this huge gamepad my fingers hurts after an hour or so.
But there is one rally I can't accomplish. the first one in World Tour. It is a rainy circuit at night. Or I run out of time or I don't have enough kuddo's.
Any advice on which car to use?

I'd use the fastest car you have, all the better if it's a fishy RWD so that you get as many kudos with as little effort to make the car slide as possible. instead of initiating slides with the break and a sharp turn, you might try more gas and over steering back and forth to get the slide started... it might make your run faster if you're not using the break unnecessarily. Of Course, try not to touch the walls unless a turn is so sharp you can negotiate it quickly. Every time you touch your speed drops by about half. I've reraced all my races so many times with the F50, I can't remember what I first used to be that race. sorry.

Well I tried the Corvette but it didn't work. When I slide I loose seconds too to get the car back on track again. And when I drive a smooth track I am short in kudo's of course.
With only a bit over 50.000 kudo's I don't have the Ferrarri and I didn't get all the gold medals in the quick race.
I guess I will have to practice again

There is no turbo in Project Gotham. You win cars by driving hours, gaining kudo's and gold medals.
Cars get better and faster as you improve your skills.

You are right! As I don't have enough kudo's yet I don't have any Turbo cars. The Exige is the best I got.
Sorry I can't help you right now. Try 'gamefaqs/guides'maybe it is explained somewhere in there.

there is a turbo gauge... but you can't interact with it as far as I can tell... it's just eye-candy. You'll notice that it cranks up and settles down on it's own... presumably supplying the optimal boost all by itself. You'll notice these cars tend to have ssomewhat better acceleration than similar class cars without turbo.
