Phantasy star 4

I am an avid player, and I just want to say, if you haven't played this game yet and you call yourself an "RPG fan", you need to be beaten with a rubber hose and then skewered with a long, long pikejavascript:addtxt('');
. Enough said, you need to play this game.

Played it, completed it, and... meh, it was ok. I liked the combo special attacks.

I DIDNT like the crappy music in the hi-tech areas.

I found a certain character's death quite sad, I must say. An Aeris beater?

Play Phantasy Star II and Phantasy Star III.
These are classics, but the fourth was the best in the series.

I love this game, I still play it now and then If they made a Phantasy Star with 2's difficulty and 4's fun and story, it could be such a fantastic game! Ps- Raja is a total legend

Yeah, number four is definitely the best in the series. It's not a grind fest like II or a rushed product like III. A lot of game companies should take a hint about how to make a good game from Phantasy Star IV.

re: Phantasy star 4

Rushed? Wasn't 3 the one with the multiple branching storylines? I thought that was absolute genius.

That said, the game looked like arse, so I didn't get far in it.

re: Phantasy star 4

Yes, that's the one. It was a great idea, but Sega didn't give the dev team time to fully implement it. In III, one plays through three generations of a family, with each generation being different depending on which woman the main character of the previous generation marries.

The rushed factor comes in the third generations: all four are basically the same. They have different beginnings and endings, but almost everything between those are identical. You go through the same dungeons, fight the same battles, hunt down the same items. Some characters are even shared between the branches. There are even interviews and such from Sega folks commenting on how the game was rushed toward the end of development.

The second generation branches, in contrast, were completely different from each other. Different dungeons, characters items, and so on. The second generation is where the game really shines.

Aha.

Well I must say it's a pity noone remade that game and fixed that particular problem.

A graphics update and soundtrack revamp would majorly help the Phantasy Star games. 4 looks good enough, but 3 was ugly.

re: Phantasy star 4

Yeah, III is the one that would benefit most from a remake. Strangely, when Sega did the PlayStation 2 remakes for the first two games, they were planning to skip III and go straight to IV. IV really didn't need a remake, but they were overlooking the one game that is ripe for remake potential.

re: Phantasy star 4

The third game had so much potential, but alot of the story was poor and boring. I replayed four just the other day, and it had me smiling throughout! I quite like the score, it is pretty good for an old game. On a gameplay note, these old games are so much better than the newer ones. P.S.P for the PSP is truly awful.
