playing hard comps doesn't get you better. you HAVE to play other people. it's the only way to develop mindgames, which is CRUCIAL to being good. playing comps can only improve your tech skill, but it doesn't if you actually try to beat the comp

he's an exception. but it's not like he doesn't have mindgames
edit: phanna has crazy tech skills, but hes nowhere near pro. tons of people mastered marth's techs, but without ken's mindgames, they can't be good. and i saw this guy on youtube. he JC shines and did perfect waveshines, but he lost to an unimpressive-looking dr. mario This message was edited by mr pizza on Dec 15 2006.

Actually, Perfect practice makes perfect, but yeah, no perfection in smash. Always room for human error. I mean, Ken has had his share of mistakes.

Computers always do the same stuff, so its not a very good idea to verse them, but who else have you got by yourself, i say practice with ONE level niner, no items, final destination or hyrule temple, if thats too easy, get a handicap

quote MazdaFalco was really the best choice for me as a secondary because of the ease to do pretty well as with little practice. L-canceled aerial attack(Nair and Dair) to shine was really easy to pick up from as well as SHL, which are a huge part of playing as Falco. Mindgames r difficult for me as Falco because I normally use WD with my main, but I tend to have a hard time doing that as Falco. I resort to using DD more, but I probably should just try and improve my WD. Sorry if I am taking offence to something not intended to b an insult, but r u calling me a beginner? My first statement was unclear when is was written as "I have had a hard time playing people..." I meant that I had a hard time finding some1 to play against. I edited my earlier post to be less vague.

quote Marthpaladinno i wasn't calling you a beginner. I meant if a plaer was a beginner at this game the best choice would be a character like mario and not a fast faller like falco. Ill also edit my last post to make it clear.

re: how do u get better? |
quote Jazz MasterI wouldn't recommend going against lvl 9's very much because of their un-human like way of fighting. They seem to be good at intercepting most aerials with grabs and basic A attacks, so players against them will often switch to using dash attacks and smashes so the computer will just get hit. If one faces too many lvl nines, they will most likely get used to using smashes and dash attacks to get in the first hit, which r considerably more laggy. Going against lvl 1 comps is a better(and more boring) training method for fighting human players where u can get closer to perfecting techniques more easily and not disrupt your fighting style. I know that I did not fare as well against human players when I played lvl 9 comps too much in my first years of playing smash. On a different note.... Sorry for overreacting Mazda

I play against level nines all the time. They aren't good for improving general skill level, but they're definitely good enough for maintaining skill level and they can help improve certain things (mainly with Fox, like hit-confirming Neutral Air so you waveshine in the proper direction)
