Following suit to Lenia's PSO FAQ, I decided to make one here. All questions on this thread will be updated and answered below. Please note this thread is currently about the JPN import as other versions are not out yet!

What is Phantasy Star Online v2?
PSO v2 is a stand-alone sequel to the original Phantasy Star Online (ie. you don't need the original PSO to play).

Extract from the PSO v2 Profile:
"Participate in new game modes online with up to 4 players... expect higher difficulty, new levels to explore, higher experience caps, more items, and of course MAGs!"


What requirements are there for Phantasy Star Online v2 from JPN?
Firstly you will need a boot-disk of some kind, which allows you to play imports/copies. These are sometimes found for download online to 'burn' onto a CD. If you do not have a CD-Writer, these CDs are sometimes sold online or in the shops. You can used GameShark/Action Replay to boot it.

This has been comfirmed, you can use GameShark|Action Replay|Xploder to boot up the game. However, it is recommended to boot it up clean. Meaning, NO codes on - Lenia


What do I need to play the JPN version online?
You will need a Hunter's Lisence, a Dricas account and a Dreamcast connected to a phone line/or with a broadband adapter. Refer to this thread for futher details. Also refer to the PSO v2 Import Guide site.


What is a "Hunter's Lisence" and how do I get it?
You will need this to play v2 online after the 2 day trial. A typical 90 day lisence should cost about ¥100 (equivalent to about $8 / £5)

That's when you'll need to purchase the 'Dricas Account' (see below) - Lenia


What is a "Dricas Account"?
This is the main server used for play. You will need one of these to play, refer to the Import Guide for details of obtaining one.


When is it going to be released in the EU and the US?
Rumours are emerging that PSO v2 has been scrapped for the EU, however this post thinks to seem otherwise. As for the US date, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.


What is the "battle mode"?
There are now several one-on-one/group battles in PSO v2. Refer to post for more information.

What other online games are there?
There are many game types for online play, including the aforementioned battle mode, soccer, capture the flag and many more!

Capture the Flag (CTF) is currently not available on the servers yet. It'll be a future update. Like those added online quest - Lenia


Can you be Sonic in PSO v2?
You cannot 'be' Sonic - but he did feature in PSO v2... click here for shots.


Can I convert my JPN v1 Characters to JPN v2?
Yes you can - see this post for detailed information.


Has the maximum item capacity increased for Version 2?
Sadly it hasn't.


How do I delete my serial numbers from the DC and does it work for v2?
See this thread for step by step information. This method does work for v2.


Are there new costumes in v2?
There are no new 'base' costumes in v2, but there is rumours of items which allow you to change clothes into special characters. See this thread for information.


Can I change my character's clothes after the character creation?
Yes, you can change their clothes (how can they live with the same clothes for all that time...) during the game - but it is costly. At 100,000 meseta you can purchase an item which allows you to go to a 'dressing room'. Click here for more information.


Are there any new game difficulty modes in v2?
The game modes are as follows; normal, hard, very hard and the new ultimate mode. Each difficulty opens up new possibilies, with harder enemies, rare items, new weapons and new enemies. You unlock each mode as you progress in the main game.


Can I go online straight away when I get v2?
Yes, but you need a Hunter's Lisence and your Dricias Account setup (see rest of FAQ).


Are there rare mags in v2, like in the original game?
Yes, there is, you just need to be extremly patient and level up your mag over lvl 100. Then you need to give it special items found in very hard (and above) mines. I won't give you the full details, as that would spoil the fun! Just look out for blue rappys...

The old 43 mags from the orignial PSO still exist in v2, but there is more than a handful of *new* rare mags - Lenia


Is there a Sonic Mag?
The 'Sonic Mag' is still -yet- another rumor on v2 - Lenia


How and where can I obtain the import version of PSO v2 *JPN*?
Refer to this thread telling you how to get it. Thanks go out to Lenia, Morpheus and FATz for sending in the links.


Is this game going to be "pay to play"?
This method, paying before playing online, may be implemented in Version 2 USA and EU. So far it looks likely, but we will have to wait on that one.


How do I take "in-game" screenshots, not using a PC to DC cable?
Firstly, you will need to refer to this thread, which explains how to get the shot onto your VMU. Then you need to point your PSO/DC browser to http://pso.donut.dhs.org/. Follow the instructions on the site and you should have your shot in moments!

This trick works for both PSO and PSO v2. I suggest using it in conjunction with the camera movement trick for group shots. The pictures are low quality jpegs, and only come out in one size, shown below.

I live in the UK and am considering ourchasing an import version of PSO Ver 2.

Please advise me as to whether to get US or Jap versions and how on earth do I get it to work online??

Thats all very well Jeevan but there are no internet addressess given for web sites in the UK. I need somewhere in the uk to buy a copy. I also don`t want a Jap version.
It might of been better if you hadclet people answer my questions before you decided to close my thread.

As it stands at the moment I need replies to my questions:-

1. Where in the UK can I but an inport copy of Version 2
2. How do I get this copy to work through DreamAreana

As for my age I am 37 and if you had bothered to read my profile you will see that there is no one on the planet with more experience of computer games than me [well, I would of thought that the game's creators might have... but then again... he he, just kidding - Jeevan].
