Laptop - Finding the Best Deals for This Spec/How Much Should I be Spending?

I am currently on the verge of buying myself my first Laptop for the coming year as I really need one for my own use though I have the problem in being able to find the best deals around for this pointless Spec (what I have summed up I want from my limited knowledge) as I don't know what it would be valued at in the first place to even say if it is worth a "deal" though they may have it on that.

The spec that I have set myself is this;

quote
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo (2.0 GHz Minimum)
Memory: 2048MB (Minimum)
Yeah that's about the minimum I am looking for though it will need to offer additional feature for the Internet and CD/USB use as well as additional feature for basic up to date games like Football Manager. I sore this (the second one) and though that was responsible though it will need the upgrade on the GHz to 2.0 from 1.83 though as you can tell I didn't like the price.

How much do you guys think I should be spending in looking for something that covers what I am looking for and if any of you know of any great deals on these then let me know as I am willing to look at them ^^

I myself am in the UK so if anyone does offer to help please keep it related to my location and currency if possible.

Thanks.

re: Laptop - Finding the Best Deals for This Spec/How Much Should I be Spending?

What size are you wanting? If your going to use it mostly at home for your main computer, I would go with a decent size, about 17". If you want it for portability, then go with a 15 or 14".

You will be looking at spending about $1,000 for a decent laptop. I recently got a HP laptop and I love it. I feel like I got a good deal for it.

The specs that you require are good; the intel core 2 duo is a good processor (I'm running one at 2.2ghz on this laptop), and your ram is good.

Check out some of these HP models. With this coupon code (NB7995) you can get $400 off any laptop that costs $1,400 or more. I used a similar one when I ordered mine and saved $400 on my laptop.

I will be lookind for a 15' so for when I do need to carry it around it will be less hassle.

$1000/£500 doesn't sound to bad a price. Does the brand really matter to much?

Ive had a look at them though nothing come from it as I was not sure about shipping though it gave me a better idea of what I needed to look for.

Do you guys think this is a good value for money?
