So I want to know if there is any way to improve the performance of my computer, for obviuos reasons. Does anyone know or have any reccomendations of how I can do this. I already took my PC apart and cleaned it as best I could. I try to keep it free of useless crap but I don't always know what to and not to delete. My Internet is not the fastest, I don't know if that is because of our ISP (Bellsouth I believe) or becuase my computer is old. Thank you.

Also, how is it slow? does it just take a while to load up webpages, or download files?

I would say it is slow for both.

It is a component you have to buy and hook up to your computer. It's easy.

I believe that Zone Alarm(a free download in the past) has an internet mode or gaming mode(I forget which one it's called because the last update turned to shareware and I removed it from my system). It shuts down applications that are not necessary to what you are doing if I remember correctly.

Also, you could just as easily do this yourself to improve your internet performance. If you have a ton of shit calling for your computer's resources(CPU power, RAM, etc) then the things you are doing on the internet will have to share with the other tasks that are running in the background. A big offender of this issue are spyware monitoring programs.
