re: Folding @ Home II

i doubt the GPU version would work for me. and if it did, it probably wouldnt do much anyway - its a tornado 5600

as you can tell, its nice and outdated.

another question - why does the */500 go up in increments of 5? does this have anything to do with the saving frequency?

re: Folding @ Home II

nope the gpu will not work with that card.It works with the ati 2XXX and nvidia 8XXX and up.
the 5 point increase is normal for the unicore model.
what cpu do you have?

re: Folding @ Home II

then stick to the unicore version. There is no way you could hit the smp deadlines with a single core p4.

re: Folding @ Home II

it should but keep an eye on it as well as the temps as it runs the cpu at 100% the entire time

re: Folding @ Home II

71 degrees max. i have the slider set to 100 percent usage but the actual usage of the program hovers around 60 to 70 percent. sometimes it just sits idle though.

EDIT: with the saving interval, how much does it affect the speed? id want more frequent saves, but im not sure if it takes a whole lot longer or not.

re: Folding @ Home II

the more you save the longer it takes. It stops folding, saves, then restarts.I have mine at 1/2 hr saves.

re: Folding @ Home II

saves only take a few seconds, mainly cpu mem and the internet,as the save is stored on the hd,and online. It gets saved online in case of massive system failures as some expert users come across on the hardcore beta testing.

re: Folding @ Home II

well if its only a few seconds then id keep it on 10 minutes. id rather lose 9.59 minutes of work than 29.59 minutes
