Thank you...but for the next couple weeks I will producing less WU's. I have to give back my work laptop to the next person who is on-call for us. But once I get it back, I will be producing more once again.

re: Folding @ Home II

I've been out of this for awhile. One PC is still down, I don't have the money to replace the K8V motherboard that I messed the flash memory for the BIOS up, but my other PC (the C2D) had an 8800GTS that died. Now I have an HD4870. The Enermax 460w handles all games fine. Whether it be a couple of hours of Far Cry 2 or anything. But when I run F@H for 30 seconds, it black screens and locks up.

I think it's, or almost KNOW, it's a PSU problem. There's not hardly a game out there that pushes a GPU 100%, but F@H was pushing the card 100%, and it was the first time the card had been pushed to 100% (monitored, not guessing). So, my PSU can't handle the HD4870 under that kind of load, even with the CPU and RAM at stock clocks instead of 3.0ghz/DDR2 936mhz.

So, this Corsair 650w seems to be my next mod. A single 52a 12v rail. Sweet. Current PSU is an Enermax rated 460w with 2x 12v rails, 22a/20a.

re: Folding @ Home II

It looks like a good PSU. The only thing that I don't like is that it is not modular. But it should fix your power issue.

By the looks of things, a few of us have been slacking a little in the WU category, so it's nice to see an old folder coming back.

re: Folding @ Home II

well unfortunately i think im going to have to stop folding for a long time. my cpu is hitting high temps. no dust or anything, but i think my fan is wearing out or something. and theres not much of a point in lowering the cpu usage, as its slow enough as it is, so im just going to have to wait until i get a new system...then ill fold like some crazy shit.

how long till im folding again...well i plan on getting intels new processor, so a little longer than the release date unfortunately.

re: Folding @ Home II

well to be honest, i dont know the full details of it, though im sure courgan does, so he might be able to give you more info, but the way i understand it is that you are given these work units, which is meant to be some kind of protein or substance. your computer does some calculations or something (this is the part im not sure of), and then sends the results back, after which you get a new work unit, and the process begins again. i have been asked before by some people questioning its safety, asking whether or not i know if this isnt just some way for someone to monitor you, like spyware. well, i dont have an official source on it, but im more than convinced it is safe because many people run it, no anti spyware or anti virus program picks it up (and this is a program that has been existing for quite a while), and ive even seen staff of websites using it.

thats about as mmuch as i know, but mind you, i didnt bother reading every little detail on this.

quote Wiki
Overclocking is the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer
That doesn't sound awfully good for the computer...
