re: General discussion IV |

Hey guys, thought I'd pop in real quick and leave a note. You may/may not have noticed I havnt been around the past few days every much. I've been busy with real life stuff; finals week, moving out of my dorm, moving back into my house, and going on a few trips. I've had quiet a busy start to the summer. I will hopefully be back up to full activity around the start of June, so dont start missing me too much.
I am planning some changes and updates to this forum also, but I havnt had time to work on them yet. Altho it rarely happens in these forums, if anyone sees any spamming/advertising, or anything that may need my attention, just report it or drop me a PM and I'll take care of it as soon as I can. It will help me out since I havnt been as active as I usually am. Thanks! ------------------- quote TurMoiL911

hey, how well have I overclocked my XFX 8600gt XXX ?? And is this OC safe (for temps) ?
Stock speeds - Core clock - 620 MHz Shader clock - 1355 MHz Memory Clock - 800 MHz (1600 MHz data rate) Temps- Idle: 55-62 degrees Celsius Load: 68-75 degrees After the OC - Core Clock - 691 MHz Shader clock - 1510 MHz Memory Clock - 891 MHz (1782 data rate) Temps - Idle: 60-68 degrees Load: 70-80 degrees -------------------

the temps are a little high, but you might be able to fix a bit of that with come housekeeping (well, casekeeping). what fans do you have, where are they located, how well are your cables managed, and what kind of hardware placement do you have?

Temps are fine for that card series. You could even push it farther if you want to, just make sure the fan is on full blast once you start loading over 85c or it might auto crash the driver to avoid a freeze/hang/damage.

My fan is always at 100% (through RivaTuner) and to my amazement, I never noticed even a little bit of increase in sound.
I have the GPU stock fan for the xfx version and my case fan. My CPU stays at 35 -40 degrees idle =, but I think that is not the required thing here. Cables are well, all tidy and allow easy access to the internal parts. -------------------

how many hard drives do you have? if you have one SATA drive, then place it at the bottom most section of your mounting rack.
what about any case fans? if you dont have any, then you may benefit from buying an el cheapo 80 mm case fan and using it as an intake or exhaust (preferably exhaust) -------------------

re: General discussion IV |

yup only one. the other is above the cpu. And the first one is an intake fan i suppose.

re: General discussion IV |

nope, but surprise surprise, intel has made it another socket. basically this i5 is the little brother of i7, and ive heard that its locked so it cant be overclocked...well, useless to me then.

re: General discussion IV |

yeah, you were right, Intel does have a tendencies to change sockets too often. Its the new 1156 socket.
well, the i5 beats the Phenom II x4 in the benches but if it doesn't overclock then it sucks. But, if it supports turbo mode (you know, changing the multiplier automatically, the i7 function) then there sure will be a get around with it. -------------------

true, there's now way one can OC them (other than flashing BIOSes). Pain in the rear, trust me, I'm experiencing this.
