Shaky Mouse Pointer, need help |
|
Lately, my mouse pointer has been REALLY shaky. I don't mean shaky as in I just leave it alone and it shakes on its own, I mean whenever I move it in any direction it shakes up and down and completely ruins my precision. Its as if the mouse is "nervous" because I cant move it in a straight line in one direction. This is becoming a HUGE problem since I use my mouse for FPS gaming (I can't aim or snipe worth shit now) and occasionally photo shopping. Hell, even if I try to get the mouse pointer over to the top right corner of this web page right now it practically dances its way up there and I can barely aim the thing.
Please, if anyone can help, I'd appretiate it. I have a Logitech G5 mouse and here is a copy of my DxDiag. The wierd thing is, my brother has the EXACT same specs/computer as me and his own Logitech G5 and his works perfectly fine on both of our computers. It's just my mouse, not even my computer. Not only that, but whenever I use another mouse on my computer it has no problems. I have tried Reinstalling the drivers and unplugging/plugging it back in and nothing works. I have fiddled with the options quite a bit and still, nothing. I have tried just about everything in the "Help And Support" troubleshooting for my mouse and again, still nothing. I even tried looking for updates to drivers and software and everything but NOTHING is working. ------------------- Read my blog on a very pressing matter if you want to live...Reading it yet? You could have some dust or hairs near the laser or on your desk that are messing it up. Blow into the laser at the bottom of the mouse and see if it clears up. I have to do that to my MX 1000 every few weeks as something gets in it.

Just blew into the laser, and no luck. I'm installing a windows update but I seriously doubt it will do any good since it is really just my mouse that is having the trouble.

what surface is your mouse on? any surfaces with textures, such as wood finish desks, or rough surfaces such as a desk with a single coat of paint making it slightly rough, or even red or red'ish coloured surfaces can make a laser mouse go nuts.

My surface is perfectly smooth. I have a exact copy of my mouse (my brother's) on the same surface/mousepad and it worked normally. I then tried my mouse on the same surface and it is shaky.

What mouse do you have?
Does it have adjustable DPI? Does it have weights? If so lower the DPI, or add some weights.

I have tried adjusting weights, DPI, etc. But nothing works... I don't think its the settings of my mouse because my brothers mouse works FINE on the exact same weights/DPI/settings and on my computer too. We both have Logitech G5s.

i dont mean to sound like i dont believe you, but is it possible for you to take a photo of the surface your mouse is on (as high quality as possible)?

It has nothing to do with the surface. We have tested multiple USB mouse devices on about 3 different surfaces just to make sure. Out of all of them, my mouse had the same problem on all three surfaces and the other mouse (which was an exact copy of mine) had no problems on any of the surfaces. I've made sure that it isn't just my mouse pad or desk, because otherwise why would my mouse be the only one having trouble?

yeah thats good enough for me. so what does device manager see your mouse as? the standard usb/ps2 mouse, or does the mouse have an actual driver with it?

quote Mikstaslaya This sounds like a problem with the hardware (possbily a loose laser hardware). You've done all the necessary testing and it failed on each testing, while the other mouse works flawlessly. Can you get the mouse replaced? ------------------- No gaming right now... my T42 video is toast (almost)... I'm getting zig zaggy lines all over the place. Neo HTML Markup help

Under Device Manager, it just lists it as "HID- Compilant Device".
As for getting it replaced, I figured as much. I bought the mouse with my computer right from Dell (ordered it online). I don't remember my mouse having trouble when we first got it but that was a few years ago. I guess it just wore out or I must have drop it and damaged something at some point. I am going to try and look for the receipt but since I bought the computer/mouse a year or two ago I am starting to doubt I still have a warranty. Sadly, this mouse is quite expensive to replace. Is there any safe way I can take apart my mouse and perhaps fiddle around with some repairs? It would seem a lot easier than buying a new one, and I have nothing to lose assuming Dell doesn't want to help me out. ------------------- Read my blog on a very pressing matter if you want to live...Reading it yet? Unless you ordered the Dell extended warranty, i doubt it if Dell will help you out. Also, if you did order the extended warranty, all you would have to do is call Dell and tell them your mouse is broken. They would either do 1 of 2 things:
1. Have you send back the mouse for repairs 2. They would send you a new mouse as replacement. Without the extended warranty, then you can fiddle with the mouse all you want as the liability is on you if it breaks even more. If you are saying that the mouse pointer is shaking when you move the mouse, then I'll bet the laser housing that keeps the laser stable is either loose or broken. ------------------- No gaming right now... my T42 video is toast (almost)... Yeah, its when I move the mouse.
The best way for me to describe it would be this: If you have ever played Call of Duty 4 and tried to snipe, you'll know that while you can move the sniper rifle around and in different directions, it isnt steady and it bounces up and down as you move it. Thats basically how my mouse is working, I can move it right and left but its shaking wildly the whole time. I'll have to check with Logitech and see if I have some kind of warranty with them. Otherwise I may just open it up and see whats loose in my mouse. ------------------- Read my blog on a very pressing matter if you want to live...Reading it yet? Now...? NOW?!
