I've decided to build my first computer. |
|
I realized that if I built a computer myself, it would be better than buying a PC off the market. I want to build a computer than can be used for gaming and regular daily use.
I live in the USA and I'm willing to spend less than $700 for the whole build. I'm hoping to buy all the parts I need from Newegg.com 1. Case- This is the case I've chosen. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208005 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 2. Power supply- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017 600w max power 3. Cooling fans- ?? 4. Motherboard and CPU- I found a deal on Newegg for both. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.232669 5. RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146731 6. Video Card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130435 7. Hard Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161 8. Disk drive- Need help. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167013 I added everything into my cart and it added to $1000+! I need cheaper alternatives. I chose those parts because I think that they are compatible. Can you verify that they are compatible? I know that some parts are probably missing that are needed to complete a build. If there's a part that I chose that's not good, or you have a better recommendation, then don't hesitate reply. Also, is there any cables that I have to buy to connect the parts? First of all.
What is this build for? What is your Price range? What games will you play? What settings do you want to game at? What size monitor will you game on? Second: Ditch that SSD. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on your rig you shouldn't have one in the first place. Also SSD's aren't all that great anyway. You should really only use them if you're only going to have the OS and like two programs on them. Otherwise they're junk. I can't really recommend anything else until you answer my questions But I'll suggest you get an AMD tri core instead of that Q9400. You could probably go with a cheaper board as well, but I'll leave that up to you. FYI Don't actually get the Tri core, until we hear what this build is for

usually no cables are needed more than what come with the products.
Love knowing you have the sense to get a power supply seperate from the case though +1 What games will you be playing by the way? If you do go with the xion case get this version. It is the same case just without the $10 charge for a power supply you wont use. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208029 For the disk drive you put up a solid state drive which is a hard drive... im assuming you want a dvd burner drive? For the cooling fans the 300 already comes with 4 for an optional side fan which you can order from antec if you want it to match. The xions fan slots are filled. What i came up with for your final build: 1. Same cases. Used the price of the Antec in the final price so take off $10 if you choose the xion without the power supply included. 2. Power Supply. Again same one as it's a good power supply for the price. 3. Cooling fans arent really needed for these cases. 4. MSI 770 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130228 5. Quad core AMD Phenom 945 3.0ghz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103696 6. DDR3 1333 mhz RAM Low 6-6-6-20 timing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148227 7. HD4870 512mb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102850 Unless you are playing at high resolutions (1680x1050 or higher) You do not need a 1gb card. 8. Kept the same hard drive as you know how much storage you'll need. 9. DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136153 Total price: 672.88 Let me know what you think.

Okay, I added the build to my cart and it added up to $667.88 with shipping already included.
I just need a final confirmation that these parts are all compatible with each other. Also, can the build play the Batman game I mentioned above? ------------------- ![]()

well im glad i found this thread. good for you, going for do it yourself option. supernova's build is good, but i have one question...why DDR3? for that system 1333 mhz RAM isnt going to do anything really. if there is a DDR2 mobo and 800 or 1066 mhz DDR2 RAM, that would be better in terms of price.
make sure you give us pics, and if you can, try and do some folding on the computer once its up and running. -------------------

re: I've decided to build my first computer. |

Just so he doesnt have to buy a new mobo if he decides to upgrade his system within ~3 years. AMD seems to be sticking to the socket for a while and they are starting to cut out their am2+ stuff. If he gets an am2+ now the am3 processors later may be too powerful for the socket like am2+ on an am2 board.

re: I've decided to build my first computer. |

point taken. however, this is one of two things to consider though. is the OP going to keep this computer for a long time, and use it for as long as possible (kinda like what im going with my p4) without ever upgrading it, or upgrade here and there after a while to keep the same system up to par with the performance requirements of newer apps? personally, i dont like upgrading most computers because youre not utilising your money efficiently, if you know what i mean. basically you have better value in a new computer than one that you keep upgrading.

Yeah, I'm going to try to use it as long as possible. If I have to upgrade it in the future because of a new app or something, maybe I will, depends on cost and everything. About that DDR3 thing, is it better to purchase that or DDR2? (I still haven't bought the build yet.)
Thanks for all the help, guys. ------------------- ![]()

Good build though I would highly recommend checking out the bundle deal recently posted on the site
http://neoseeker.com/news/11609-amd-dragon-platform-bundle-on-sale/ Should get you similar performance for a lot cheaper. Actually you will get an even better video card which is one of the most important aspects in gaming. As far as DDR2 vs DDR3 while DDR3 is technically better performing, DDR2 is still good enough to last a good number of years without noticing any large difference in performance especially in games. DDR3 right now is quite a bit more expensive both in the memory and the compatible motherboards right now. This message was edited by Xero07 on Aug 21 2009.
