My laptop screen broke |
|
Please someone help me!!! (Mind u that I had a little tiny crack in my laptop screen but like the size of a splinter)I got all these viruses on my laptop and my computer started to overheat. (I think the viruses were causing my computer to overheat) anyway, so i closed my laptop cuase it was over heating then when I turned it back on the computer screen was shattered. It was cracked and the black stuff i think oozed out of that crack because of the over heating. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! I DESPERATELY NEED YOU!!!

uhhh, yeah, your screen is obviously dead. but viruses will never cause such physical damage to your computer. this looks like a mishandled laptop. if youre under warranty, fix it. if not, your best bet is to try and find the screen of your laptops make and model online and swap the screens. thats all you can do.

well you might have closed the screen too hard, or pressed on the screen while closing it. if a crack starts, it will progress.

Viruses would not cause physical damage to your computer. The over heating could have been from lack of ventilation.
As for the screen, it will take more than a warm laptop to do any damage to them. Really the only way the screen would have shattered is if something hit it to hard or too much pressure was applied to it. If its not under warrenty, then the only thing you can really do is search for a new screen on ebay. Depending on the size, age and rarity of it, a screen could be anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars. ------------------- quote TurMoiL911

Stress cracks are the start of the end for a screen, it means the glass has been taken to the limit for tolerance and eventually it'll translate through the rest of the glass.
It sounds like you did more than just shutting the screen and given the results you need to hit ebay and try to find a replacement screen for that model to DIY it if you're savvy. The lesson for anyone, don't rage out on your screen or you'll get screwed trying to find a new panel for it. ------------------- ![]()

quote hiigaranJust out of curiousity, wouldn't it be physically possible if someone made a virus that basically overclocked your CPU? That would massively increase the voltage being put through it and burn it out. -------------------

i dont think so. i might be wrong, but from what ive seen with software overclockers, the volts dont go high at all.

re: My laptop screen broke |

that seems more feasible. i wonder if such a virus exists yet. if not, were probably going to give some hackers some ideas

There are viruses out there that basically does both. It can shut down your PC and prevent it from booting into the OS (forcing the OS to loop a reboot).
It can also force your CPU to do heavy computation that if left long enough can eventually fry your CPU if there isn't enough ventilation or heat release (normally you'll notice your PC freeze and nothing responds while your CPU is spiking at 100%). I don't know about the voltage changing, however I think that is unlikely since the voltage change can only occur in the BIOS (can someone confirm this). However for the most part we don't see viruses or malware like this. The virus\malware developer usually create these viruses for monetary and profiteering reasons. There's no money to be made if you build a virus to kill PCs (at least killing the OS anyways). ------------------- No gaming right now... my T42 video is toast (almost)...
