Here's $2,000 - Do your best |
|
Got a window eating virus. Would rather spend 2 grand on a new machine then reformat this 5 year old baby. We've been through everything together, but it's time she was put down. I built her with my bare hands and she's run every game up to this point...
That being said, I haven't been keeping up. I know quads are out now (I totally missed the duo generation) and something called i7s which are god knows what. I'm leaving it in your hands, forum members.. I am giving you a budget of $2000 Canadian to make me a monster gaming machine. I will love you forever. Budget: $2000 Canadian.. will go SLIGHTLY over if necessary Your Location: Canada Main Purpose: Gaming, HD video editing, photoshop, 3ds max Multitasking: A LOT Games: Warcraft III (hehe), I want to play Crysis and all those other gems I've missed out on. Resolution: My monitor is 17" 1280x1024, not really planning on getting another one. THey are so expensive. Overclocking: No, unless it is really easy... Recycled parts: Hard drives, Case, and Monitor Case: Already have a good one RAM: Best? Hard Disk Drive: Have one Rest of the parts: best you can get together for $2000 I suppose you can get all prices from http://www.newegg.ca/ I am not lazy, I just am ignorant with what is good these days. I am still going to research a lot myself, but mainly I am looking for CPU, RAM, Video Card(S) and a mobo for 2000. and how much PSU I will need. Thanks!!!!

I can't remember the last time I suggested a build on here, because Hii always makes a better one that saves more money.
I'll leave it to Hii to configure the actual build for you. I'd suggest going with an i7 920 because that's a huge budget. You may even be able to get an i7 950. I'd also suggest a 5850 if you can get your hands on one. Otherwise you might be able to fit a 295 in your budget. That might be pushing it though. For MOBO I'd go with a FlamingBlade, only because you're not overclocking, so you don't need a huge expensive board. Memory I'd go with Mushkin, or Corsair. Prolly 6GB of DDR3 1333/1600

probably the i7 860 would be better, but i wouldnt focus too much on the cpu first. for gods sake there better be some 5870 cards in stock when i get home and do this list or im going to lose it.

This is what I would do:
Intel Core i7-870 $620 ASRock P55 Deluxe $180 Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 $130 Pioneer Black 22X DVD Burner $38 CORSAIR CMPSU-850HX Modular PSU $180 HIS H489FT1GP Radeon HD 4890 Turbo OC Edition $230x2 = $460 OR EVGA 017-P3-1295-AR CO-OP Edition GeForce GTX 295 $550 Total (Radeon HD 4890): $1610 Total (Geforce GTX 295): $1700 You can get two 4890s and keep them for awhile or, buy one relatively cheaply and replace it with a high end DX11 card when they become available. There's also room to get more RAM if you think you need it for video editing.

quote hiigaranI'm straying away from 1156 suggestions until socket problem is fixed. It's actually getting worse. 1366 is a bit more expensive, but it's not dead and offers more performance then you need.

Thanks guys! I will review these shortly.
Why is no one selling 5870s?!?!?!? Can anyone find one? If I spend 500 bucks on one, is that better than Xfiring the 4890s?

performance wise, no. for future proofing, yes. the 5xxx series cards support DX11, which the 4xxx series cannot. the 5870s arent being sold because theyre pretty popular from what ive heard, and ATI didnt make enough to meet the demands.

Alright I found this site, they sell it
http://www.cdw.ca/shop/products/default.aspx?edc=1908572&enkwrd=PRODCAT%3aA9(5870) Takes a few days for them to order one and send it, but should I get 2 of them? Or will that blow my budget... I don't want to miss out on dx11 or is the performace not worth it over the other 5xxx series, and not within my budget.? Most of the builds you guys made still had almost $500 to spare so I could always throw another one in? - Also, should I get Windows 7, This message was edited by Molson on Nov 10 2009.

get the one that suits you. what features do you need? look, and compare. no point in buying the ultimate edition if youre not going to use the features it comes with.
