get an AMD 965 3.4 Ghz processor, keep that RAM, get the overclocked HIS HD4890 at 965 mhz core clock, and the cheapest ddr2 AM3 motherboard there is (its from zotac and about 30 bucks after rebate). power it all with a 600 watt psu.
sorry, im not bothered to get the actual links right now, especially after suggesting the same things over and over again -------------------

i found the CPU and the GPu but i cant find motherboard with ddr2 AM3.
and the one you are referring to is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500031 but it uses Geforce tho. does that matter?!? also how is the case?

It doesn't matter unless you're going to crossfire.

that wont even matter because theres only one pcie x16 slot anyway.
ahh i just noticed the case now. dont get it if its just for the good deal on the case and power supply. this is the best psu for you. as for the case, get whatever you like, as long as it supports the motherboard. -------------------

re: building budget comp for 1st time! |

thanks guys. i knew something was wrong. hii said i need 600w but the PSU he suggested was only 450w. my only concern now is the motherboard. does it have the potential for upgrade later? should i get just better one now or should i just buy another motherboard later? Right now the computer i have is almost 10 yrs old so i want to replace it as soon as possible. im willing to spend 500-700 bucks now and upgrade as i get more money. currently, i will settle for 4g ram, and decent GPU but later i want to upgrade to at least 8g and maybe GPU too. Should i get crossfire? my friend is against AMD and Radeon but im sure you guys know more than he does
I looked at the PSU bphicks123 posted but there was PSU and case combo deal for 60 bucks discount so i went with this one. i will start ordering stuff as soon as i get ok from you guys. thanks lot! Also just out of curiosity is there Intel and Nvidia alternative? and are all the parts compative with one another? i read on the GPU review something about having trouble connecting GPU with PSU... here is the new list Case Motherboard PSU CPU dvd drive Memory Card hard drive GPU

sorry about the wrong link. i must have suggested that for another build and it was the last thing i copied or something (excuses, excuses
regarding your parts, that case wont support your motherboard. the motherboard is mATX, and that case only supports ATX. your chosen DVD drive is IDE. it should be SATA, as that interface is faster. basically theres no reason to go for IDE any more. this is the same price. as for the RAM, this is cheaper after rebate, and is faster. finally, this psu is better. its 50 watts weaker, but you dont need the extra wattage. its also much, much cheaper. -------------------

re: building budget comp for 1st time! |

I would go with the cheapest board you can find that has crossfire support.
if you want to wait on the GPU you may as well get a 5870, and crossfire it in the future if you need to. if you wanted to go with Intel/nvidia you would need somewhere around 1300$ for a decent build. -------------------

sorry for being really anal but im really new to computer hardware and i want to make sure everything is compatible...
as bphicks123 said i replaced the mobo with thismobo for crossfire and got this case i made sure the mobo said AMD3,DDR2 and ATX the total without GPU comes out to $596.23 with tax and shipping. which is perfect for my budget! i will cough out another 200 for GPU in few weeks but this will do for now! Thanks for da help!

are you planning to crossfire right away, or buy one 4890, and crossfire when needed?
