Somewhat building first computer

All this computer stuff is not easy to absorb in just a few days. Here are some links to what I have picked so far http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400084819084&refid=store and for video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130512&cm_re=geforce8800-_-14-130-512-_-Product
Tbe budget is 600$ and at most 700$ US
Location: US
Main Purpose: Gaming. Games like the new Batman or Risen
Multitasking: Not much multitasking for me.
Resolution: Not really an issue. I do not care how big or small the resolution is. I usually run at 1280x1024.
Overclocking: Not wanted unless necessary.
The rest I believe I have picked out. I would like to know if there are compatibility issues or perhaps better upgrades for relatively the same price as what I have listed. It is for XP and Direct X 9. Thank in advance. I hope I did not miss anything.

re: Somewhat building first computer

no good. do you have 820 bucks? because this would mow down everything and last you ages:

quote another thread

DVD $25.99

Case $99.98

HDD $49.99

Mobo $61.99

Video Card x2 $189.99 x2 = $379.98

PSU $109.99

RAM $83.99

CPU $195.99

prices listed before rebates.

AMD 965 3.4 Ghz, 4 GB DDR3 1600 mhz RAM, overclocked HIS HD4890 video card, and a solid 850 watt psu. enough said. and of course, the coolermaster 922 HAF.
now you could swap the case for something cheaper, and swap the 965 to a 955 processor and it will get you under budget - its your call.

re: Somewhat building first computer

Wow. Fast reply. Thanks for that. Had a few questions though. My friend has had a GeForce 7 series for a long time and he swears by them. He also has had an ASUS motherboard with a Pentium chip. Now I do not wish to start a feud between which is best but is there a way to get an ASUS with a Pentium as well as a GeForce 8 series? The reason for the 8 series is that I only have an XP disc and do not have Vista. Thanks again for the awesome quickness. If AMD is best I might go with that. I am still in the decision phase.

and...? that doesnt matter. you can get whatever hardware you want.

your friend needs to get with the times - the geforce 7 series are pretty much obsolete. newer hardware is released pretty quickly, at about 6 month intervals.

there is a way, of course, but i dont recommend it for several reasons. ive made my point on the GF 8 cards, but regarding the pentium, that is also an outdated processor. newer processors can beat the pentiums, even if their clock speed is slower because they are simply newer technology.

AMD is the best in this case. if you had $1200+ then Intel would be best.

re: Somewhat building first computer

Nice to talk to someone who is intelligent. The reason I mentioned XP is that I heard that certain GeForce cards would only run with Direct X 10 and DX 10 was only compatible with Vista. I really do like the build you have shown and will more than likely go with it. One last thing is that my brother mentioned compatibility issues with games and the Radeon video card. Thanks for clearing all this up for me.

re: Somewhat building first computer

no, when a card is said to be able to run directx 10, it means that is the highest DX version it can support. theyre still backwards compatible.

as for compatibility issues, there are none. ATI do have problems with drivers, but they get solved shortly after the device has been released, and the 4890 has been out for a long time, so driver issues and compatibility are no problem.

re: Somewhat building first computer

Thank you for all that you have done. Really awesome. This will be the last question....I hope. The card you recommended is out of stock. Are there any that are just as good and at the same price?

re: Somewhat building first computer

well id suggest a 5xxx series card but they are out of stock as well, so i have no other alternatives. i highly recommend you stick to that 4890 because its the best value youll get, especially because its overclocked pretty decently.
