my AMD athlon 64, at 2.2gig, is running about 32-35ºc idle, and about 40-50c under load. is that alright/bad/good? I've put some new artic silver on the processor/heatsink, but that hasnt effected anything. any clue on how to lower the tempuratures? I have 2 fans on it, plus 2 outtake fans next to it. ------------------- <Ren> 181 stabbings have taken place at my hands

depending on your motherboard, you just go to CMOS, and pc health status, or something like that. if its around 30-35ºc, then thats good. over clock just a little bit at a time. if your computer randomly shuts down or restarts, that means you over clocked it too far. dont let the temp go about 40c, in cmos so that you let room for it to go high when under load. 50 to 60 should be the max. anything higher then 60c is bad for the computer. ------------------- <Ren> 181 stabbings have taken place at my hands

re: General Computer Hardware Questions |
quoteWhatever you can get outta it. Just remember that the higher the fsb and multiplyer, the thinner you are spreading your cpu. Then turn up the voltage a little at a time until windows wont boot, then back it off. You will find the max by doing that. Use a calculator, its easier. And try not to raise the voltage on the cpu more than 2%-5% over stock. Watch your heat too. You can probly find a good temp range by visiting forums and threads where people give oc and temp stats. When you think you are stable(play halo pc and see if it locks up) runPrime95 for about 24 hrs. If you pass all tests, you are good with your settings. This is what i did anyway.

Hi guys, can someone please tell me all the diffrent types of RAM you can get. I have a Compaq 7500 (S7500UK) with 512mb of RAM. I want to upgrade to 1gb. Does anyone know what type and speed of RAM it takes? The manual doesn't seem to tell me. The label on the front says "DDR", is that a type of RAM? ------------------- ![]()

re: General Computer Hardware Questions |
quote Steel MagnoliaWell from what i can find your presario 7500 maxes out at 512mb of ram. If that is the case you are stuck with what you have. I have also found that those comps only work with a specific type of memory chips, so it doesnt look like just any pc100 will work. And yes ddr is a type of ram. My power source's +3.3v rail is currently down to about 2.9 and I'm getting warnings from hardware doctor. There havn't been any stability issues recently, and I'm just wondering if the situation is bad enough that I need to get a PSU immediatly or if it's something I can wait on. ------------------- B-E-A-D-G NeoIRC Musician's Corner

Some psu you can just open up and there are small adjustable PFC screws I believe they are called and you just turn them slightly to give yourself a boost on the rail of choice. I wouldnt say that your power supply is in any trouble but being .3 under normal rail settings isnt very good as it degrades your performance (on any rail). A psu between 400-500wts from OCZ or Enermax would be a perfect choice. ------------------- ![]() The Beezies know whats ^ ~Props to my European pimpa~Entropy- Neo's best photoshop artist

ok i am in the process of building a new computer and am getting rather confused trying to figure out if my MOBO and CPU combination will or wont work. i need a mobo with an AGP 8x slot for my all-in-wonder card, and i would like it to be a socket 775, the board i am looking at is DFI lanparty 875P-T and the CPU is a Pentium 4 540 or 550 which would be a 3.2GHz or 3.4GHz, respectively, could anyone with knowledge on the subject check these out and let me know if this will work, it would be greatly appreciated thank you

^Not trying to be a fanboy and make you choose something else, but have you also thought about an AMD system?
