Program Performed an Illegal Operation!!
|
Hi, I have Windows 98 and I borrowed Red Alert The Arsenal with Aftermath included from a friend. On the CD it says it is compatible with Win98. Anyway I installed the Red Alert CD and Aftermath and I get this PROGRAM PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. Here is what it says:RA95 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff74147. Registers: EAX=00000007 CS=015f EIP=bff74147 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=00000104 SS=0167 ESP=00880000 EBP=00880000 ECX=00000000 DS=0167 ESI=bffc9f6a FS=1307 EDX=8164ce9c ES=0167 EDI=00880023 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 53 56 57 66 b8 4e 71 8b 55 08 8b 4d 0c 8b 7d 10 Stack dump: 00880128 bff7526f 00880023 00000008 0088025c 00880460 00880157 00005212 52000000 2e2a5c3a 0000002a 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 bff713e2 I am then forced to close out and this happens everytime. I have tried reinstalling...updating video card driver. Just about everything. I have asked www.westwood.com technical support but they are no help b/c they keep giving me these suggested answers that I have tried and they have failed. Hopefully you guys can help!!
Thanks, Tyler

im sorry to say this but if says that its a KERNEL problem, there isnt much we can do.. its like in that joke where windows has a random problem taht occurs once in a while.. well this is something that occurs randomly on ceratin PC's. but provide the specs of your computer, and maybe i can tell you what to do.. esp. your grafics card info, and precisly WHAT did u download for it.i had a similiar prob. with my red alert. after i would exit the game, after 5 min, it would giove me a kernel error and most programms wouldnt work unless i rebooted.

ok thanks for the info, but delete it after were done.. its sensetive. anyhoo lets gt it on... 1) you probably know about the constant evolution theory: newer software=gotta have faster computer with newer stuff this however works vice-versa. older software may be.. TOO old. although this shouldnt be the case... i ran my red alert on a win 98 with a nameless opengl with something like 16 or 8 memory. i NEVER upgraded any stuff on it. all my games ran on "software mode" [when your game doesnt use the graphic card to get better grafics] now IT IS POSSIBLE that your game has probs because the card and its software make your game beleive it is too old to work. i dont remeber how it was during the installation, but if there is an option that disables using the graphic card , USE IT.try combos like decreasing resolution lets say u have 1024x768, put it to 640x480. if you cant make your game not use the video card and run on the software accelerator, you can TEMPORARILY disable your video card by a)installing an old driver the older the better b) even better, uninstall the driver althogether. make sure you have a backup of the driver zip or install file. do it via the menu that you used to install the driver. windows should be able to operate your card by installing its own drivers: put the windows disk in the cd driver, use the windows menus to install the windows driver [windows WILL protest saying that your currently installed drive is good and stuff, you make it have it your way insist on installing the windows software. if you succed in uninstalling the driver [its easier if you already are familiar with that type of operation if not i will tell you how] this should work as now, no matter what video card you have it is doing its worst performance ever. which is what we want.it SHOULD work reinstall it just to be sure. if it works go in the menus and put all the grafic stuff at minimum. after that exit, and try reisntalling the driver and replaying the game. if it has trouble, set your colours to 16bit and your resolution as small as you can support. try again without reinstalling. if it doesnt work, then unfortunatly i dont think i canhlp you anymore.. thats as far as i have evr gone to make a game work. but do post any new errors or anything at new all.
