i bought this drive from overclockers.co.uk i am having problems with it its supposedly been made region free, but it doesnt play any dvds. frpm any region, im using power dvd (tried 3.0, and XP) i also tried WinDVD, ive been using dvd genie too as suggested for the drive it seems that 1 of two things happen every time, A- "unknwn file format"error, or B-"disk nay be damaged" but ive tried several brand new dvds- plz help me;(

re: Unknown file format

sounds like you should return the drive.

but before you do that make sure it's in DMA mode and it's set as master/slave on your IDE cable. just to double check.

re: problems with pioneer DVD-106S

I'm having a problem with my Pioneer DVD-106S slot load drive. It won't play any DVD's. I've checked everything I can think of, cables, jumpers, drivers, firmware, I've even tried running in Windoes 98 and 2000 Pro, but nothing works. I've tried several different software players, too, like PowerDVD 4, WinDVD, and a couple of others. Power DVD gives me a "disc scratched or damaged" error (no. 89020003), and the other ones will sort of play a DVD, like, it plays the first .1 seconds of each chapter all the way to the end, so it takes about 10 seconds to run through the entire thing. It will usually work with CD's fine, but I have also gotten an I/O error while attempting to access some DVD's from My Computer. Can anyone help, this thing has got me stumped really bad.
