I'm currently shopping for a new television. I'm looking for something small, around 15-19 inches, with HD. Can anybody reccomend a brandname for me? I was thinking magnavox, but now I'm debating between every brand.

Sony And LG are some of the best makes in my opinion, and if your looking for a LCD you should make sure the refresh rate is quite low (around 8ish-ms) and the screen display is bright (measured in nits) Otherwise you get ghosting effects. And if you plan on watching or playing games or movies with lots of black, i would try and go for the 2ms mark
 And since you didn't specify a price range i can't really recommend one right now, but if you can (and they do models like 19'' i can't recall) You should try out the Ambilight range  Theres alot to choose from so there are many ways to waste your money -------------------  | |

Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, LG, and a few select Dell TV models.

I would class brand names like this:
Best avoided Companies that you've never even heard of before. TV's that come packaged with something else (bargain home cinema etc). Suspiciously cheap. Anything with low stats (contrast less than 1:2000, refresh rate above 8ms, low candle light/brightness (aim for >1000cdm), low pixel count (below 1??? X 720)). Mid market Pretty much the industry standard. Middle of the road stuff. You'll find some good and some bad, and most will accommodate your budget. Companies you hear and see everywhere: Samsung, Panasonic, Phillips, Sony, Toshiba etc. The best thing to do is grab a few magazines and search a few websites for reviews, and then go find those TV's in a store somewhere to see for yourself. Sony typically carries the best quality, in 1080s as well. And while you don't need a 1080 for a few more years; they still have an excellent picture if you have the money to spend.
Samsung, Hitachi and Toshiba are all more affordable, and all have nice pictures when it comes to HD and standard viewing. | |
