re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

Yep, with basically every site offering downloads of something, it would be impossibl to check every single downlaod.

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

They are not going to end up cutting them off, Fining custumers is a lot more implimentable, and a much more realistic deterrent to carry out.

They would be left without 5% of the original internet population.

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

quote Danielg81
Quote The BBC:

Internet users who illegally download music and films could get disconnected if new plans get the go-ahead.

The government is working on a law that could force internet providers to take action against people accessing pirated files.

The detail hasn't been published yet, but in at least one other country users face a 'three strikes' system - a warning email for a first offence, temporary suspension of service for a second offence, and finally, termination of their contract.

Internet providers who don't fully enforce the rules could be prosecuted by the government.

Do you think the new law is a good idea? Would it stop people downloading illegally?

I personally think people will always find a new way of downloading stuff. They always do!
I like the way the major corporations start losing money, the government acts quickly to stamp it out..

Hell no, im not willing to buy a whole CD for one song that takes my fancy, when i can just have the one i want for free. And agreed, the British government are quick enough to stop themselfs losing money, but they dont mind the endless violence, killings and immagration in the country.

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

This is *bleep*ed up. I use Limewire to find songs that are impossible to find in stores and videos I'm too lazy to figure out how my DVD Ripper works that I need.

And yeah 1 CD has no more than 2 songs I want. Economy is ripping us off!

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

It won't work. You really think that internet providers are willing to lose customers when they realise that almost 50% of people will have illegally downloaded something at one point in their life.

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

even if the law does pass, there's no way that they'll manage to track everyone down. Too many people use the internet for illegal downloads it would mean many ISPs go out of business, anyway. It isnt going to stop me

re: Should illegal downloaders face disconnection?

quote Danielg81
The British government never fail to make me laugh. This country is an absolute shambles. This should be the last thing they are focusing on. Poverty, crime, youth, pensions, hospitals are just a few more important things i can think of.

And also The music/film industry is lying. Piracy does not cost them millions of pounds. Why? Because the chances are that if the pirates couldn't get the content illegally, they wouldn't bother getting it at all. So in reality, the industry is losing out on money that they wouldn't be getting in the first place. They make their own problems by charging so much for the content in the first place.
and then we get all those brits bragging about how l33t the UK is over the USA. there the same.
