A Most Insightful Read

Has anyone read the novel Johnny Got His Gun? If not, then you most likely have heard of Metallica's One.

Basically, the story revolves around a young soldier in WWI who was literally blown to bits by an artillery shell. He lost his arms, legs, eyes, nose, ears, jaws, and his voice box. He is taken to a hospital, where he floats around in a state of being half dead and half alive. His mind and body are perfectly healthy, yet he cannot communicate with anyone using the traditional manners. So eventually he starts to bang his head against his pillow in morse code to communicate with the doctors and visitng generals, saying "SOS. Help me. SOS. Kill me." Nobody does this, and at the end of the book nobody had killed him, implying that he lived for the rest of his natural life in this state.

So let me ask you the question:
How much would that ******* suck?

It would absolutely suck, I would try and bite my tongue to kill myself or something.

More than likely he had no place to put his tongue. He lost his lower jaw; you can't bite.

I know that I'm supposed to believe in God and everything, and I have total faith in him. But I swear, if that happened to me, I'd disregard God just once, and kill myself. I'd regret it, but then... I wouldn't, at the same time.

In the event that I've been damaged beyond help, my family has every right to pull the plug.

If that ever happened to me, my family would know just to kill me. They wouldn't want to see me suffer.

That is true, because if I was at a part where I would literally want to kill myself because I couldn't do anything and literally just sit there, dwindling away. I would give my family that right to pull the plug.
