So I just now learned that you have to have proof of residency to get a job. That means that you can't get a job if you don't have a house. So if you're homeless, you're gonna STAY that way. This is a big deal! A big big deal! The poor are STUCK that way!
So what I'm wondering is...

WHY aren't we rioting? This seems like a big enough of a deal to blow random stuff up and vandalize public property in angry protest! I can't possibly be the only one pissed off about this! Why aren't we rioting at local law enforcement? Why aren't we campaigning and picketing and organizing boycotts of American-made products? We should be doing everything in our power to force the government to get rid of the "proof of residence" standard! We should be tying up IRS collection agents at town square so passerby can throw tomatoes at them! We should use any means necessary to get rid of that horrible restriction that prevents the homeless from making money to get a home! We should be stopping at nothing, and yet we're doing nothing! WHY are we doing nothing!?

Sure you can get a place of "residence" to stay at if you have family or friends who'll take you in, but some people's entire families are homeless, and good luck making friends when you can't shave or bathe!

So to state my question again, WHY aren't we doing anything about this? WHY is my topic the first angry topic on the subject?

Because the US is capitalist.

Winner takes all.

Better question, Mr. Wootsavage, why aren't YOU rioting? How about, instead of complaining to us, you try and reform things. Join a few agency's. Try to change things, run for office.

There are shelters for homeless,I guess they can get a few small jobs there and when they save up they can buy a house.

It's actually false. Only big corporations enforce that rule that you need to have a residency to get a job. Little companies don't often care.

It's up the employer to hire who they see as the best candidate - having an address means that the person can be tracked down if, say, they abscond with anything.

I think some places might accept the address of a youth hostel, and many people could get away with using a relative's address. And then there's the Big Issue, which allows homeless people to make a bit of cash, and hopefully safe up enough to find somewhere to live.

In the UK, we also have government assisted housing.</sub>
