	_{Friends, Neoseekers, Geeks, lend me your ears (eyes). Mods, Admins, wiki-staff, perfect records (no bans), and my friends. Loungin' has a certain 'reputation'. This has been discussed in a number of places. Loungin' is incapable of serious discussions, they say. Posting anything serious in loungin' and expecting decent discussion is foolhardy, they say. Who is this 'they', they say, and no one can reply. But, anyway, in my many years as general grouchy busybody, I've made a LOT of serious threads in loungin'. There were the Serious Discussions of the Felony/Sonecor era, in which we discussed whether it is right to use only intelligent and successful men as sperm donors, the pros and cons of the global success of big brands versus independent stores, and whether it is better or worse for children if they are the only thing preventing a divorce. Morals have always been a good subject - the people of loungin' are happy to discuss their views on parenting, and generally despicable behaviour or tragic events where something has gone, or even just cases of someone being phenomenally stupid - a woman who was so desperate for a child that she eviscerated a pregnant woman for her unborn baby, a mother determined that her eleven-year-old daughter will be the next Jordan, people freaking out over whether placing two strawberries in chocolate tuxedos next to one another is a way of recruiting homosexuals. This isn't IE, that's true. We're not going to have in-depth discussions on minute aspects of science, politics or religion which would involve really knowing the subject, and possibly researching it. But, that doesn't mean that loungin' cannot generate interesting discussion (and by that, I mean for more than two or three people at a time - a mostly personal conversation in a thread doesn't count). People can have opinions on things such as abortion or not turning children into paedo-bait, and discussing it doesn't have to be a chore. It's ironic that, most of the time, when a serious thread goes spammy, it's because of members, generally younger or newer ones, who truly believe that Loungin' cannot handle serious discussions - not even realising that it's their behaviour forcing this to be the case. Loungin' isn't some mythical entity that we have no control over - it's the average of all of us. And yes, your behaviour and responses have an affect, even if it seems minute. That's not to say that it's not fun just to blow off steam sometimes, or discuss something less serious (like cake). People should post how they want to (within reason, and abiding by the rules), and not be affected by wondering whether or not loungin' can handle serious discussion. I forgot where I was going with this. I think I was rambling. But yes, don't get drawn into spam because you think 'everyone' is doing it. 	I agree with it's reputation because most of the time I make a thread it only goes for two pages and dies while I see threads like "Would you sex a zombie" go on and on. My prediction? This thread won't go further than 5 pages. I think Loungin's true problem is it has become a comedy club. Everyone is trying to be funny and everyone is trying to get a laugh. Someone just suggested over msn that this might seem like I'm stepping on the mods toes, and saying that they're not keeping loungin' in check. That's not the case at all. No one's breaking any rules, but I don't think the community is as good as it can be. And I know that people will maybe post in this thread for a day or so, at most, and then it'll fall to the back, and be forgotten, and then another group of neobabies will come along, and the same things will happen, and someone else will make a very similar thread. 	Amen, Deis. I couldn't have put it any better. The "reputation" of Loungin' definitely is one that's fickle. It can vary from day to day but overall I think you're right. People think this place is a spam-fest. Therefore they spam and it actually does become a spam-fest. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy which sadly can be changed and I remember those threads you made (like the one with the strawberries) and having a good laugh and a good discussion all in one. 	I find it slightly ironic that such a thread comes up while all the trolls/spammers are at school. xD Aside from that, I wholeheartedly agree. The level of serious intelligent discussion in Loungin' has fallen, where as for some reason, the level of crappy internet fads skyrocketed. It's a sad thing to see. At least some political threads have decent arguments in them...yet even those have their share of idiots. -------------------

What's wrong with cake threads? =/ I think Loungin' has slightly improved in terms of quality posts since that "funny quotes" header was removed (though my opinion may not be quite valid since I haven't been here for a while). 	Of course you can have serious discussion here, but the fact remains that there are maybe 20 members (I'm being generous) who regularly post in Loungin' who's opinions I'll actually read. An example of the mind-numbingness of this forum would be the Abortion thread way back when. Was a great discussion, I really enjoyed it, but nothing pissed me off more than people just popping into the thread and saying "No, it's wrong, you're killing a baby", and leaving it at that. ------------------- quote D I O S now I'm imagining you sweaty and naked. 	Loungin', at time to time, can have serious discussion, and that was my opinion for quite a long time. However, the one thing I never, ever liked was the ... I'm stuck between choosing minority or majority ... of people who walks into a serious discussion and completely derail it. I think what Loungin' needs is something that a majority of the members could be interested in.
