Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the second annual Neoseeker Presidential Elections! Some of you may be wondering what the heck this is and how it is going to work, and that all will be explained throughout the course of this post.

What are the elections?

The Neoseeker Elections will be very similar to an actual presidential election. Please keep in mind that this "president" will be notified before accepting his/her "oath" that he/she cannot act above the rest of the members on the site, and won't be treated any differently than a regular member by moderators or administration.

How will the elections be run??

Well, we are going to have four presidential parties, led by four different members. Ryancola, Quierta, Shane, and Underated will each be the "head" of their parties. There will be an application period, where members interested in running for president will submit PMs to this account. Five members will be selected to run for their party. These 20 candidates will be selected by the campaign leaders to represent their individual parties.

There will be a one week voting period for each party where you, the members, will vote on a candidate you think would best represent their party in the general presidential election. Once there are only four candidates remaining, the general election will run for two weeks, and during that time members will be able to vote for their president.

Well how come I wasn't chosen for a party? I do a lot more for Neoseeker than Member A!

Well, we are all perfectly qualified to distinguish between the members here. I can guarantee you that there will be more than 5 people I would LIKE to pick, but it comes down to who would represent themselves the best in an actual election. We're trying to make this as less of a popularity contest as possible. You can still support the elections by voting when the time comes. The 20 selected members will be informed before running for presidency that they must not act higher than anyone else in this site. We don't want an elitist structure being set up in Loungin', we just want to have some fun and perhaps do something good for the Neoseeker community.

I've been selected as a candidate, but can I have a vice president?

Absolutely. Each candidate will be allowed to select one running mate for the entire duration of the campaign, and this "vice president" will help to shift voters over to that candidate's side. Keep in mind that just because you may be a vice president for the winner, does not mean you will receive any awards.

What are the benefits/responsibilities of being president?

Well, this is probably the biggest issue we've had to work on since last year, and I'm going to break it down by first addressing the BENEFITS, followed by what will be REQUIRED by us for the president to do.

BENEFITS:

- You will be honored in the Forum header and will have a congratulatory thread set up for everyone to praise you!

- Quierta has offered to create a Loungin' theme dedicated COMPLETELY to the president. Meaning that after winning, you can PM her and request whatever kind've theme that you like and for the entire year it will be left as an option for people to use.

- You will be allowed by the Loungin' moderators to create and organize events within the forum. After winning, you should PM them to see exactly what events you will be allowed to run, or to give them any ideas for the next forum event.

- Each week the president will be allowed to select a thread that they find most interesting. This will be called the Presidential Featured Thread and hopefully it will generate discussion towards that thread. This can be done all throughout Loungin', and may also be done outside of Loungin' too, HOWEVER, the president MUST PM the forum moderator BEFORE making it their featured thread of the week to make sure it's okay. Mods that do allow it should be encouraged to note that it's the President's featured thread in the thread's custom title.

- (NOT FINALIZED) You may be rewarded with having your name changed for a month to say something like "President Ryancola". Meaning if Jesh wins the elections he may be able to have his name altered for a month to "President Jesh"--- pretty cool! This is not set in stone, however, as we're in the process of discussing whether or not the administration would be willing to do this.

REQUIREMENTS:

- As president, you will be asked to serve as the "voice of the members." We have determined that it would be in the benefit for the entire community if this member played an ACTIVE role in the RFS Forum by advocating ideas that the majority wish to see implemented, and being an omnipresent force across the site-related forums doing whatever you deem necessary to improve the site.

- You should be seen as a ROLE MODEL for ALL members. Meaning your behavior should be an example of acceptable behavior throughout Neoseeker. If you're going to spam and make joke posts 24/7, the presidential position is not right for you. We're not implying that you have to be a stuck-up, pompous member, but we're merely asking that you understand that, similar to the president of the United States, all eyes will be on you, so any error that you make may be amplified further.

- Keep in mind that with this elevated status comes elevated responsibility. Acting like you're better than other members will not cut it, and the abilities granted to you should be used with discretion. This means that even though we want you to voice your thoughts across the site, you shouldn't be parading through every site-related forum once a week saying what's wrong or what should be changed and etc.

- WARNING: If at any time your behavior as president becomes intolerable, we (the four party leaders) reserve the right to remove you of your status and promote the presidential runner-up as your successor. The ability to be president is a privledge and all privleges have the potential to be taken away.

How will the voting process work?

I will establish a "voting" thread which will be used to determine the winner of each primary. Each vote will last 72 hours, and members can submit only one vote per person. The 20 candidates that are selected WILL NOT be allowed to vote in the primaries. The voting form will be posted up in the thread used for voting. That thread will be used for campaigning and questions. All votes will be submitted through PM to this account.

How can I campaign for myself if I'm selected to represent my party?

You can put it in your signature, profile, neohome or whatever, but please keep actual posts to campaign for yourself INSIDE OF THIS THREAD.

If you are caught to be PM'ing people to garner votes or using any other method of campaigning outside of what I've just listed, you will IMMEDIATELY be disqualified.

How many threads will be made and what will be there purpose?

Neoseeker Presidential Elections 2009:: Questions, comments, campaigning, and scheduled "debates". Members can post their support of another member in this thread as well.

Neoseeker Elections '09-- The General Election!:: Will be used for the debates, campaigning, AND voting for the general election between the five members that will determine the winner.

I noticed you said debates. How are they going to be held?

I'm going to be asking each candidate 10-15 questions based off of Neoseeker and on the world itself and what they would do to change it. The candidates will have a few days to provide their answers. So technically, the candidates won't be arguing with eachother-- but they will be formally presenting their "plans" as "president". We are thinking of holding a debate here within the forum similar to the Big Brother/Neo Reality threads that were made, but that it still pending.

Why should I participate?

Well, no one is forcing you to, but this would certainly be a great opportunity for the forum to come together again and experience a cool activity that everyone can take part it. Please keep in mind that when you vote, don't just vote because Member A looks hotter than Member B in the Photo Album. You should be voting based on how well they are campaining, what kind of member they are on Neoseeker, and what there answers are in the debates. The Neoseeker Elections had 216 members sign up last year, and we're looking to make this year even bigger!

Please also keep in mind that there are two people that have automatic entries into this year's elections. I have selected Jesh and Ecto5 as two of the five members of my party because of their victories in the Raffle and Hurt/Heal threads respectively.

Hehe, "President Jesh"! That actually has a nice ring to it. That would be an awesome perk if you guys can work that out.

Are there any particular differences between the parties?

Other than the names and the coolness of the people running them no.


The only main difference is that my party is cooler than the other three's, so you should be excited if you get chosen there.
