So, the voting is over, the majority of the state of Maine voted "Yes", and gay marriage has been repealed. But this isn't the last of it. You see, I'm going to start advocating.

However, my best friend is a Republican. He's not as right-wing as he could be, but he's right-wing enough to be one of the "Yes" voters. I knew he voted "Yes" even though we didn't talk about it, because of his political position. I was fine with it at first, because and only because we didn't talk about it. You see, our friendship has survived all these years because of our common interests, not because of our beliefs.

BUT TODAY. Oh the worst has happened. Today, someone in Forensics classed asked my friend how he voted on question 1. He was sitting right next to me, and he said, "I voted yes". The girl who had asked him, stopped talking. Apparently she decided she didn't feel like talking at this point, and I don't blame her.

I spent the rest of the class trying hard to fake a lack of care, but in reality my blood's been boiling ever since my "best friend" spoke those three deadly words.

I'm contemplating postponing our friendship until he agrees to attend my re-education sermon, so that I may expunge the very last of his homophobia until he agrees that gay marriage is a good thing. The problem is, he might refuse forever. Bear in mind he is my BEST friend, so losing him may be devastating, but at the same time, it seems that someone as important as a BEST friend should match my morals just a little bit closer than he does.

What should I do? Should I try to live with the way he is, or try to change him? He's really a nice guy and all that, but I can't get his one worst quality out of my head.
