Now I've got your attention what do you think when someone says 'Jesus Christ'? My dad says it's swearing and i'm not meant to say it but why? It's just a *bleep*ing word, like any other swear word. Apparently it's offensive to the bible which is good cos it's a load of shit anyway, and we ain't religous so I don't understand

I don't care since I actually use it a lot. Of course, when I say it, I mean it as a swear word/phrase so of course it's offensive to some. I won't deny that.

I don't really think anything of it. It's just a slightly more satisfying way of saying "dangit". I'm not a Christian anyways.

It depends how you're saying it. The Bible says not to take the name of the Lord in vain, so if you're shouting it when you get pissed off, then it could offend some people.

Well, using the lord's name in vain is sin. That's why it can be offensive to people. And since "Jesus Christ" is often yelled out by people when mad, that's why it is the way it is. Not all people are very happy about it.

I don't just say 'Jesus Christ', I also say 'For Christs Sake' which isn't as bad IMO. I can get away with sayin 'For God's Sake'

I think it's bad to say that. It doesn't matter if you're a Christian or not. I don't think that its right to talk about how you don't like other people's beliefs. If you don't share the same beliefs its fine, you don't need to offend them or treat them differently because of that.

Since when was swearing meant to offend? It was meant to apply reactionary emphasis to phrases and situations. If a cobra launches out of my toilet bowl in the morning and bites me in the thigh and I yell "JESUS CHRIST," trust me, I'm not trying to offend the snake.

No but what I meean is when you swear some people are taken back a bit. I agree with you since when was swearing meant to offend? And that's my question now - why do people find it offensive?
