Dreamcast Not Dead Yet, New Release Set For 2010

Gameinformer

quote Gameinformer
Dreamcast fanboys dry those eyes and start dusting off your systems; it looks like Sega’s last console will be getting at least one more title. Developer TDGMods is working on a kind of sequel to the 1997 PC release Blood.

This new first-person shooter is called Hypertension, Built using the Hyper3dge engine – a modified version of the original Doom engine – players will be able to control two different characters in a story that spans more than a century. Featuring light RPG elements and many of the weapons and enemies from Blood, Hypertension is set to release sometime in 2010 for PC, Lynux, and Dreamcast.

If you want to see the game in action check out the trailer below. The graphics aren’t much to look at, but this looks like the kind of game we would have played back in 1998. Anyone remember Blood? Was it any good?

Ok... So did the developers just forget what century they are in? Why not use the same story and design elements and upgrade the graphics and put it on a new console? You know something that more than a few thousand people actually still have. I mean talk about limiting your potential market. Even selling it as a PC title for nostalgia fans would make more sense.

re: Dreamcast Not Dead Yet, New Release Set For 2010

Correct me if I'm wrong, but video game development for something at the console level would involve thousands of dollars in development costs, right ?

It just seems that if the guys over at TDGMods wanted to waste all that money and have nothing to show for it, heroin would have been a much better to spend their time. At least there's some joy to had in that.

I doubt it would for a console older than the PS2. New games came out quite often now for the Dreamcast, for example:

I was expectin' a Rickroll...

So... Uh.. This for real?
Very well, then. I do have a Dreamcast, but I'm not sure how well it works now. I guess I'll have to see about that...

re: Dreamcast Not Dead Yet, New Release Set For 2010

I seriously doubt Sega approved that. Homebrew games are being released a lot lately for the Dreamcast. It's cool to see what they come up with.
Sega just won't approve of new games for their old system.

I should know, I'm a collector of classic games and consoles.
