From a literal view, 11/9/09 makes more sense.

Well tell me this. When you say the date aloud do you say the day before the month, or the month before the date? Me personally, I would say "November, 9th 2009." not "5 November 2009".

And it ain't 9/11, or 11/9 for that matter.

We don't say November 9th, that implies that the day is November.

We say <day> <date> <month> <year> or in this case, Tuesday 10th November 2009.

It's amazing how games can cause a whole argument about anything... this time it is the dates
