Whats so bad about double posting like come on.Somebody posts twice.Why is there such a big fuss

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it. Also, the rules don't say "DO NOT DOUBLE POST", it suggests that you try not to as the edit feature is there. You're not breaking any rules by double posting it's just 'frowned upon' by some people which is daft.

Make use of the edit button, or simply think when you are posting, do I have anything else to say.

it affects others because people have to sift through more crap to get to posts, and in the cases where people are purposefully trying to increase their post count, its usually just something spammy or borderline spammy, of which moderators have to deal with. plus you look like a complete and utter immature loser for doing it. its the internet for gods sake. who the hell would give a shit if you have 10 000 posts? it doesnt get you any more power, it doesnt give you some kind of status, and it most certainly doesnt make you look better. youre just going to get laughed at for trying.

boom - right there. the double posting thing is mentioned because people dont like seeing people making a post, and then two seconds later making another one saying something like 'oh, and thanks for the help', especially when the edit button is there. plus it looks better when people dont double post, and its easier to read things (forum dependent i guess).

Personally I don't see a problem with it if a reasonable amount of time has passed between your last reply and your new one.

But not if it's right away, which can be annoying at times.

I think it depends on the situation. In all the forums I moderate, for example, if some time has passed and someone wants to make another post, it is perfectly acceptable and I allow it.

I think where double and triple posts get you into trouble is when they are just transparent attempts to bump a thread with little discussion value, and in situations where people post several minutes apart and just don't use the edit button.

Edit: Relmutsie AN, you are 100% right. In the Writer's Lounge you can make ten posts in a row if it is part of your story or other writing. lol Forgot about that.
