The Beltway Sniper set for execution |
|
For a 3-week period in October 2002, the DC Sniper John Allen Muhammad and his accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo went on a killing spree in the DC Metro area, putting the entire area on edge.
During the run of shootings, 10 people were killed and three were wounded; the case was also the basis of an episode of Law and Order. Everyone could breathe a sigh of relief after the pair were arrested at a rest stop in Maryland. They were transferred to Virginia due to the state's aggressive use of the death penalty, where Muhammad, a gulf war veteran, was convicted of murder in the first and terrorism charges. Malv-who was 17 at the time-was also convicted of similar charges, but was spared the execution chamber due to his cooperation with prosecutors. After reading some of the case details at the source, I feel as disturbed as I did when this story first broke. Personally, I view the death penalty on a case-by-case basis, and in this case the punishment fits the crime not only for his lack of remorse of what he did and his blatant disregard for human life, but for what he was apparently planning. Quite frankly I don't want to know if what he was planning was going to come to fruition or not, because if it had, things would have been a lot worse than they were. Thoughts and reactions to the execution of the DC Beltway Sniper (tonight @ 9PM EST), and if the death penalty is a good thing or a bad thing.
Should have been more clear as to what I was after, my bad. ------------------- Proving people wrong about Asperger's Syndrome since 1985, and will continue to do so as long as I live. And I NEVER give up OR quit when I'm faced with adversity!

Seems like the guy is mentality ill. I don't agree with the death penalty at the best of times, but especially not on the mentally ill.

I don't think he's a Muslim extremist. I think this man was legitimately insane. It's not Muslims are either good or bad and never crazy. They are just as human as your typical, American persona.
He should be put in an asylum for life. ------------------- ![]() ![]() Former Rome

Well hes been diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome/post traumatic stress, according the second article he is paranoid and psychotic and according the first article his brain shows clear signs of schizophrenia.

And he still thought through, and killed those people. If this had been some random assed run and gun adventure, I'd say he had no idea what he was really doing. But SNIPING those people? That's a calculated act, crazy or not, he deserves to die.

quote DevilDogDaveYou obviously don't know what schizophrenia is. But I seriously hope he doesn't have it. Otherwise he's not going to go to jail. He's going to get rehabilitated... -------------------

My cousin was working at the Ponderosa that fell victim to the snipers. She just got off work and she could have been the victim if she left that building 10 minutes faster.

That man is not a psychotic. A psychotic person is somebody who walks down the street bashing people's heads in with the first blunt object he gets his hands on. John Allen Muhammad had the planning down, he had the execution and escape routes all planned out, and he knew what he was doing was murder.
I cannot think of a more textbook definition of somebody would deserves the death penalty. ------------------- Tomorrow there will be no shortage of volunteers. No shortage of patriots. Tango Uniform Romeo Mike Oscar India Lima 9iner 1ne 1ne I hope you understand.

quote DevilDogDavePlenty of psychotic people are calculating in their manner of mayhem. There is no defined way to be a crazed killer. How can you not say he was psychotic, when there were so many signs indicating that he was? ------------------- ![]() ![]() Former Rome
