Should the dead rise up against us what would you do to protect yourself, your family, and friends? Where would you hide and what weapons would you use to defend your self?

I would probably head up into the hills as far away from civilization as I possibly could equipped with a katana for everyone in my party.

Definitely a chainsaw. To immobilise a zombie you have to remove its limbs.

If not, I suppose a room sized blender would be appropriate, like one of those walls with the spikes that slot into the other wall you always see in movies.

Chainsaw's pointless, unless you want to get close enough that they can bite you. You need a projectile weapon, something you can aim at the head to dismember them. Shotgun, rifle, anything of that nature.

I'd try to find a flyable vehicle, get to an island, and wait many many years. Of course, I don't think zombies die, so that kind of sucks...

Obviously become their leader... We all know we can't kill zombies so for all those hero's who think they can kill them... I'm going to enjoy your body organs.

I've had many in-depth conversations about this. Between worst-case scenario quick, smart, strong, fast-infecting, almost impossible to kill zombies and slow, dumb, weak, non-infectios, "even a few body-shots will down them" zombies, I have come up with a good middle of the road plan.

Thinking about it, a mall would be terrible. The reasons for this are the food supplies would run short quickly, as all you have is the food court, and whatever pretzel stands/ popcorn crap they have, it would be incredibly difficult to effectively barricade with all those entrances and exits, especially the semi-hidden employee ones. It goes without saying, this is pretty suicidal. Even a small, secluded town would be better, with it's small populace meaning smaller infected and less chance the bigger horde of zombies happens to accidentally wander around once they have nothing to do.

A Wall-Mart, with their taking over the world ways, would be better, especially if you can find one with lots of food. Many of them have access to the roof, as well as smaller entrances, and big shelves for blocking the door ways. They even have weaponry in many of them to boot.

All of this is really for naught, though, since hiding in a defended location with weaponry should really be a last resort, or used near the end of the outbreak when there will hopefully be less zombies, and you're trying to take over the world.

As for weaponry, guns are a last resort, they require lots of ammo, which can be cumbersome, and you really are not going to want to attack a zombie at a distance, you're going to want to avoid them as much as possible. Swords would be crap, they're all useless replicas nowadays, and they'd be hard to use in close-quarters. Plus, even if you had an actual sword, it would dull rather quickly, as would a machete. Chainsaws would be cool, but hard to use, and short on fuel, plus, assuming zombies can hear, you're *bleep*ing dead.

I recommend a sturdy and light weight fire-axe or hatchet, or assuming strong, blunt-force trauma can kill them, a crow-bar. Both of these can double as essential tools in an emergency, helping you chop down or open stuff.

As for guns, if you must have them, don't go machine/sub-machine guns unless you have easily killed zombies, although an FN-Minimi or a powerful Mini-gun may work, through the virtue of having enough bullets quick enough to turn the zombie into a puddle. You want guns that can make the most of ammo efficiency, usually. Remember, you will be using these to stop zombies chasing after you, or attacking your base. A classic shotgun works well, as they can rip a zombie to shreds close up. A Barrett rifle could work too, since you'll be in your base, taking them down from long-distance. Remember, we're assuming head shots will kill instantly here, but don't forget, a leg-shot will prevent them from running after you.

Explosives are also last-resort. Maybe mines would be good, possibly concussion grenades, but any other explosives have a big potential for killing you, too! Heck, they could even weak then structural integrity of the place you're hiding.

Also, fire sucks! At best case, you having a flaming object around that could catch stuff on fire. The worst that could happen is that... Congradulations! You now have a flaming enemy running at you, setting things ablaze as it goes, and if it does catch you and you escape, you're still on fire! Things like flame-throwers rely on the victims writhing in pain while they slowly burn up. Usually, but not always, zombies are depicted as painless.

This is immediate survival, though. You need long-term solutions. You will need some kind of water filter, a method for making fire, and a source of food. So get some Brita, build a garden, get some tinder, and hope it rains every where but on your fire wood.

Now, this has all so far been written for people who get stuck in a city or town and couldn't flee. Fleeing is good. You. Can. Out. Run. Them. In. A. Vehicle! Remember that! However, should some animal get infected, or the infection is slow, allowing people to travel, then suddenly zombify, you're screwed.

So far, my best idea would to be hi-jacking a good boat, stealing lots of soil, seeds, and gardening equipment, "yoinking" a de-salinator, and heading out to sea, staying relatively near to shore. Every few months, I take an excursion in with, hopefully, any companions I have, kill a few, and steal some shit that's still good, and run back to the boat. Hopefully, other survivors will be around. At best case scenario, they eventually rot to the point they cannot do anything, and we go in and burn the bodies. Eventually, they're will be few enough, we can build bad-ass walled, castle-like cities. Then we fortify them, and live in them for the rest of eternity to ensure this never happens again.
