Over the top fight between Agent Smith and Neo |
|
The final battle between Smith and Neo seems to me so over the top that it was anti-climatic. By then I'm not really sure who cares since both sides obviously have godlike powers and the fight became almost comical in its exaggeration of their abilities and their effect on their surroundings. What do you guys think?

I agree, it got to a point where it became too overexaggerated that it was repetitive. I enjoyed the fight between Smith and Neo in the first Matrix. As in both fights, they were primarily evenly matched, except there seemed to be more realism in the first one.
Some of the effects in the Revolutions fight were nice, but as stated, it was "over the top." ------------------- ![]()

What I think, is most people didn't understand the fight sequence, (or hell...the film for that matter.) What do you expect when you base your entire climatic showdown off an episode of Dragonball
Neo's always had those so-called "powers". Agent Smith however, only obtained the powers after he took control over the Oracle, which is why the others didn't fight, because it was Oracle-Smith who forsaw the destruction of Neo, therefore the other Smiths just stood back and "enjoyed the show". If not, then Neo would have wiped the floor with them all until there was that single, smith who he fought during the end fight. At first glance, I wasn't expecting the Dragonball-style/fighting throught he air fight sequence, but upon later viewings (Thanks to the DVD), I knew what to expect and was able to enjoy the film more enjoyably...and quite honestly, the fight isn't as comical as I once thought, nor is it half-bad. I wish Neo would have went into the Matrix, slapped the living hell out of Smith and his virus-like clones, and the Human's would have won been victorious in the war; but the Wachowski's knew this couldn't be possible and I didn't realize that the first time watching it. ------------------- ![]()

re: Over the top fight between Agent Smith and Neo |

I don't think it has to do with misunderstanding what the intention was. Regardless of whether Neo always had these "powers", and how Smith got his powers, the point is that it was just too over the top. People flying around and creating sonic blasts on aerial collision goes beyond showing how powerful each character is. I didn't say it wasn 100% unenjoyable, just that the overall effect is to jade most of us to the point of not really caring about the fight sequence. I don't disagree its a spectacular display at times.
I'm used to seeing some crazy fight sequences and so it's rare that I feel like something is so exaggerated that it becomes over indulgent. Ps. unrelated. It appears that some event occured between when I posted the first post on this thread and when I saw it again tonight that caused the Revolutions forum to lose its association with its product info. Can anyone tell me when this might have happened? ------------------- The further back you can look, the farther ahead you can see. <paraphrased> - Winston Churchill

I know what you mean, it took all the realism out of the film. In the first one, you might have actually thought it could be possible, but by the third installment, they'd gone way over the top!

I didn't think that the fight in Matrix Reloaded was over the top. Visually stunning, yes but not over-the-top. As much as I have begun to like Matrix Revolutions now, I still think that aerial fight b/t Smith & Neo was over-the-top. It was unnecesasry really. I actually cringe lookin' at that fight cos it looked so out there.

I noticed that awhile after the end of the fight, I noticed the Oracle was laying in the same hole in the street the fight ended in. Why was that so? Was Neo fighting the Oracle Smith? Because how did the real Agent Smith jack back in after the fight on the Logos?

I thought the end fight was really cool though I did think Smith's sudden aquisition of such God-like powers was over the top but on the whole I loved this film.

It was over the top, it was visually impressive but I was still let down by the big finish. I was waiting for Neo to turn into a Super Saiyan and beat down Smith's ass with a few Kamehameha's, that's me completely agreeing TLA;
quote Fair enough this is the Matrix but c'mon, flying through the air whilst throwing a few punches, what a let down. What happened to the stylish martial arts and such? I think the biggest let down was how Smith won though, well, I say won but it was hardly a victory. To be honest, I would have been a lot happier with another fight scene such as the one where Neo takes on the ancient french-speaking programmes chronies. ------------------- ![]()
