just use cheats and kick his ass

Yeah, the first time i played through the game i just couldn't beat Xan without cheats.

He kills you when you just look at him, and he has tons of armor. Ridiculous.

He has a mutch beeter AI then the other bots to almost every time u encounter him he has schiedbelt or cloack and he also does more jumping and dodging than the other bots

Xan is Gimp beat him the first time i tried him and thae same on hardest. just need to work on ur game

My strategy elements are:

1) Keep your eye on the invisibility & grab it every time. If you let him get it, he'll probably get at least one kill in on you. If he DOES get it, spend some time outside bouncing around in low gravity... anything to let time pass and it wear off of him.

2) Grab the shield belt and power-ups as much as possible. Don't worry quite so much about stealing the shield from him once you've got yours... he will very predictably go for the shield, and you can nail him in that little hallway easily.

3) Keep your flak cannon loaded with lots of ammo!

4) If he's armed up, he'll follow you if he sees you. Use this to your advantage (he's not smart enough to run when he's clearly trapped). A good place to trap him is either going up or down those ramps into the two lower areas (where the flak cannon & ooze gun are). Get him to follow you, go down the ramp, turn around, get out of the line of fire, and lob grenades to the top of the ramp. If you hear him grunting, good - you're taking health off. This method takes about 10 shots, so again - keep lots of ammo on you!

5) Aim is everything! Get a grenade in his face and he'll die no matter how much shield/life he has.

6) Learn to effectively alternate between lobbing grenades and the primary fire (flak shotgun). Flak is good for when he's moving all over the place and your grenades are being wasted; it's also the ONLY thing to use close-up. Grenades are good for when you can't see him but you know he's coming around a corner, up a ramp, etc. Lob them high-ish so they hit him in the face.

7) As SOON as you kill him, check for invisibility (unless you have it), shield belt, shield, health and flak ammo. Get them if you can. Use his re-spawning time to re-arm and re-group.

2 Ways

1-Beat him in endurance. Make sure you're always going for the shield-belt and +5 healths because Xan is programmed to ALWAYS go after them when they respawn, so make sure you check by there frequently.

2-Use the antigravity outside to your advantage and snipe him out with the Shock Rifle or Auto-Lock with the Rocket-Launcher...Works for me, and I beat him on Godlike mode!

If you want to beat Xan, hide behind the teleportation ports but walking behind them, but not through them. Charge the slime weapon and then we play the waiting game.. Xan will eventually discover your hiding spot and then all you need to do is blast him and walk through the teleporter without getting slimed yourself. GL!~ABS

Which version(s) of UT do these threads refer to?
I found Xan beatable in the original UT using the de-nigh him the powerups and trap him in the shield belt corridor strategies, but in UT 04 I'm finding him almost untouchable; his almost limitless armor, abiltiy to kill around corners and hit you with wepons out of their effective range is bloody annoying, I reckon he's cheating big time and any cheats to bring him down are fair enough.
Is there an invisbilty power up in the 04 version of this level? I haven't found it or seen Xan wiht it.

right where do i start....... DONT USE CHEATS!!!! they suck.... plus u aint playin the game properly if you do.
the best thing you can do is stick a pair of headfones on and listen to his movements when you are outside find a nice place to sit a wait for him to come to you, when you hear him approaching, get ready load ur rocket launcher up and blast him away. works for me every time

You know, when I had the game, I never faced Xan. Did the game on easy. Ok, so maybe you can't face him on easy. Did the game on average. Ok, maybe you can't face him on average. DId the game on skilled. Ok. What gives?

I can't beat him. He goes for invisibility and shields too much. None of the strategies worked.

i used a somewhat different strategy.
at the start of the match, i made a beeline for the rooftop. there, i constantly took health vials and adrenaline pills, while arming myself with the shock cannon and keeping a look out for Xan

when he appears, try to land hits on him. if you're lucky, even one hit will send him flying into outer space, and if you're even luckier, it will count as a kill for you. anyhow, the effect will be to widen the score gap between you.

at the end of the timer, i beat him 7 - 6! YAY! i am quite the camper. but i felt justified due to my terror at facing Xan face to face.
