Oh thank you DC gods. because of you, my dreamcast has been given a second lease on life. Perhaps now I have no excuse to finish Shenmue!

re: Dreamcast Reseting Problem - help

This is probably a stupid question that someone has already answered, but why does my DC refuse to play Rez?

I can try putting the disc in 15-20 times, and nearly everytime the disc spins up, then almost automatically stops spinning and I get dumped back into the DC's menu screen. It can take 15-20 times of me taking out the disc and reloading before it finally decides to read the disc and play fine. Rez is the ONLY game that my DC does this with, nothing else has any problems loading at all. Its not marks on the disc (was a factory sealed copy when I won it off eBay, but I sacrifice monetary value in the name of gameplay everytime!) because there are no marks at all. I've tried opening my DC to have a look around and clean out any dust which may have gathered and caused it to overheat, but that didn't do anything either.

One strange thing an old DC guru on a forum far, far away told me that something which might be causing this problem is that DC systems made before a certain date have trouble reading the Rez disc, but I'm not sure if this is true, because I picked up a second hand DC for £10 (after chcking it was after the quoted date) but Rez still refuses to play consistently on that DC too.

Does anybody have any clue how I can get Rez to play consistently, as the few times that I have been able to play the game have completely captured me with the graphics, music and gameplay, absolutely sublime and hypnotic!

Sorry for the long, long thread, but I need help dammit! Please? Can anyone help?

re: Dreamcast Reseting Problem - help

Dreamcast reseting it self the reason usualy are from the game disc like a game you didn't play it in about 2 or 3 months.
another reason is overheat so playing in a cool room Dreamcast will never reset it self.
sometimes you have to replace the fan or the power supply or the lens or all of them
But it's usualy from the game disc and overheat .
i've really a lot of experense with electronics hardware in fact this is my occupation I studyed it and I fix every thing like TV's stereo VCR etc.... so feel free to ask about any thing you need it's no bother

re: Dreamcast Reseting Problem - help

Thanks for the replies, but still got a problem.

1. I don't like the idea of sticking a fairly rare game disc under hot water, I'm sure that would bust the disc wouldn't it?

2. The problem with the Rez disc starts no matter when I try to play the disc, be it either after an hour and a half playing different games, or from a cold boot at the beginning of a gaming session, so I can't see it being overheating either. I've tried using a Utopia disc and then putting the Rez disc in and it seems to work fine. but I'd rather just be able to stick the disc in the drive and boot it up, just like any other game, instead of faffing about with the Utopia 1.1 disc.

Any more advice, anyone?

re: Dreamcast Reseting Problem - help

Hey I dunno how old this thread is but I have a souluton that worked for me and a dozen odd other people, my Dreamcast reset itself if you looked at it sharply and eventualy got to the point that i had to buy a new one, only to have it happen again

THERE IS A WAY TO FIX IT

its caused by some points that over time start touching off one another and thus resetting your DC

but I"m gunna go out on a limb and say this voids the hell outa your warranty, and dont blame me if you break snap or bugger something

so here we go:

1)open yer DC up (keep all 4 screws)

2)now with the dreamcast controller ports facing you and the top off, you will see a large rectangularish circuit board going down the left side,(never even think of moving or removing the part of the dreamcast with the laser lens on it LEAVE THAT BIT THE HELL ALONE!) on this board are a few screws and a 6 pin plug thing connecting it to the base circuit board of the DC, after removing the screws and unclipping it (be carefull of the AC power fitting on the back it can stick) pull it up and off gently, if you cant get t to move you may have left in a screw. Take the time and make sure its not still attached somehow.

3)with the board now unfastened clean the 6 pins poking out of the lower curcuit board (alchohol and some cotton balls work well DONT USE WATER OR SALIVA!!) and gently bend them forward one or 2 degrees, just so they make a firmer connection with the points when you plug em back in

4) put it all back together, so thats put the upper curcuit board back onto the lower one (pluging the 6 pins in) and then screwing it (if it seemingly wont sit in take note of the power fitting at the back)

5)Pray to whatever god/s you worship/share oneness with

thats it, if you followed the instructions correctly then yer dc will work again, the problem may recurr in about 6 months so just repeat the process, I have fixed my dreamcast this way, and have had no one say it hasnt worked so I hope this finds you well

The problem is the DC is over heating. To fix the problem take out the modem, remove the top half of the dc case. The board u need to look at is left of the GD-ROM drive. Unplug the little cable to the top left and unscrew the board. Now CAREFULLY unclip the powerboard off. The 6 pins near the bottom left of the DC are the problem. Clean them, with something like WD40, you could also slightly bend them towards the front to ensure better contact, but just cleaning them should solve the problem.
what easy way can i get scracthes off my game

re: Dreamcast Reseting Problem - help

My games will sometimes stop when I'm playing them, then it will go to the DC main menu and say: "Please wait while the disc is being checked..." then start up my game again.

Any good EASY EASY way to fix this without opening my DC?

I've actually got the EXACT same problem with my copy of Rez which i bought brand new, sometimes it works fine but others it just goes straight to the start-up screen seemingly at random, worryingly i heard once that there was a bad batch of Rez games made which had to be sent back due to the information not being put onto the disks properly. on the subject of dc's reseting, mine used to do that but it was nothing to do with the power, it was the lever underneath the cd lid slipping, making the dreamcast think it's lid was open.
