My Dreamcast refuses to recognize the Sonic Adventure game. The disc is flawless, not a scratch or even a speck of dust on it. I had another before which was scratched and it didn't recognize it either (even though the seller claimed it was working) now he exchanged it for a brand new one and it still doesn't work. It either freezes on the DC logo, or drops me to the menu and when I select play it says "Please Insert Disc."

My other issue is with Metropolis Street Racer, which is also in perfect condition. This one works "fine" except for the fact that it refuses to save anything. Anytime I press SAVE I just get returned to the main screen. The VMU even displays an OK message, but nothing gets saved.

Let me say again both of these games are in flawless condition, and I have a dozen other games, some of which are in rather poor condition, and they all work fine.

Is this a game problem or a DC problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

With MSR it may be an issue of your VMU not having enough blocks of memory available.

Sonic Adventure, not really sure. Here in North America there were some defective copies, but it was said to have been less then 7% of the initial run that was defective. Initial run meaning the problem was cleared up before the release of the "Sega All-Stars" edition. So the odds that both copies are defective are very very slim. Check the discs for label side damage.

In my last post, "I tried using a VMU" should read "I tried using a new VMU." In other words, all the blocks are free.
